Hello everyone it is a pleasure to post in this community once again after sometime, and today i am here to talk about a very interesting topic, classification of farm animals, so lets start.

Farm animals

Some farm animals belong to the group of vertebrates and invertebrates. Vertebrates are animals that have back bone while invertebrates are animals that do not have back bone.
Farm animals are those animals who live under the care men all through their. Hence farm animals are classified based on their;

  1. Zoology
  2. Digestive system
  3. Size
  4. Habitat
    Lets discuss them little by little.

Classification of farm animals based on their Zoology
Farm animals are grouped based on their physical features or appearances;
A) Mammals: These are animals that produce their young ones alive and feed them with milk from the mother. E.g Cattle,Goat,Rabbit etc

B) Birds: They are grouped by their laying of eggs which hatch into their young. Their body is either partially or wholly covered in feathers. Eg Chicken, duck,turkey etc.

C) Fish

Classification of farm animals based on their system of digestion

A) Ruminants: These are farm animals that feed on vegetative matter like grasses and legumes. They are characterized by the possession of four compartment stomach which are the rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasum.

B) Non ruminants: These are farm animals with a simple or single stomach compartment.e.g pigs,dogs,rabbits. In birds,the swallowed food first moves to the crop before it moves down to the gizzard for grinding of food substances. Another name for non ruminants are monogastric animals.

C) Herbivores

Classification of animals based on their size
A) Large farm animals: They include cattle, sheep, cow, goat etc

B) Small farm animals: They include poultry,rabbit,turkey,fish,snail etc

Classification of farm animals based on their dwelling place
Every farm animal are deeply dependent on the place they live, because they things they do depend on the environment it lives in. They are grouped into two;
A) Terrestrial farm animals: These are those animals that live on land, eg dog,goat,cow etc.

B) Aquatic farm animals: These are animals that live in the water.
