Introduction |
---|
Language is a spoken or written coding which depicts information when decoded. According to this definition, one can decode a certain information if he or she understands the language spoken or written. Do language helps in human development? How many languages can I speak? Let's find out together in this article
Name Of My Country And Number Of Languages Found There |
---|
The name of my country is Nigeria. Nigeria is a country who is blessed and enriched with diverse tribes and languages. There are more than 250 ethnic groups with different languages. So, each ethnic group have their unique language. So, I'll say that Nigeria is blessed with over 250 languages spoken by the indigenes.
How Many Languages Am I Familiar With? |
---|
As I said earlier, Nigeria is blessed with different ethnic groups which possess their individual language. So here are the lists of languages I can freely speak and understand:
- Ibibio: This is my native language or mother tongue. With this language, I can freely converse with anybody. I learnt this language from my parents and people around me.
- English: This is referred to the Lingua franca of my Country, Nigeria. I can freely speak and understand this language without hesitation. I learnt it in the school where it was part of the curriculum.
- Nigerian English: Nigerian English also known as Pidgin is used in Nigeria as the second Lingua franca. This language is easy to understand as it uses simple words for it's sentence construction. I learnt this language around my neighborhood in an informal way.
- Yoruba: This language is associated with the western people of Nigeria. Actually, I can't speak it freely but I can say some simple commands and greetings. I learnt it from my cousin who resides in Lagos.
Importance Of Language In My Life |
---|
Generally, I'll say that language especially my mother tongue helps me get closer to my nativity. Communicating with my native language especially also foster the sense of origin.
Will I Have The Willingness To Teach My Children Languages? |
---|
I will be more than happy to teach my future children the language of my nativity. Many people round the world might not teach their children their local language but I'll do so with this reasons in mind:
- Remainder Of Their Nativity: A popular proverb say that a bird who flys so long will certainly perch on the ground. This proverb explain the importance of our nativity. Teaching my future children my native language will foster the sense of origin in them.
- Preventing Extinct: Also teaching my future children the native language of mine will prevent it (the language) from going in extinction. Several languages has gone into extinct because the older generations refuse to teach the younger ones. But, I don't want my mother tongue to go into extinct. That's why it's my responsibility to teach them.
Conclusively, language is not just what we speak but it is who we are. It is why it's advisable not to kill your mother tongue by suppressing it with the Linga franca. Be proud of your language and your language will be proud of you. Till next time, have a wonderful week.
I invite @johnmitchel, @saintkelvin17 and @vudeme123 to this challenge.
