Hello everyone here. I trust you are all doing great as usual. It is yet another wonderful Contest here on this community Steem4Nigeria and I'm glad to write on it. Many fake stories has to been told that we had to believe either maybe because we were kids then or are ignorant of the truth but nevertheless its all good that we are finally knowing the truth

What have you believed in for a long time only to discover it's untrue later?

While growing up, there are alot of lies we were told with the notion to help us or save us from certain things as kids since we were not wise enough and old enough to think for our selves and take responsibilities. Below are some of the lies I believed but finally know the truth and that they're all lies.

✔️ The Devil has touched any food or snack that touches the ground

It's really funny to know that this is absolutely a lie that was helpful. You know as kids then, we care less and have little idea about hygiene and personal health so when my food or snack falls on the floor, I will always try to pick them up and eat but ever since I was told that the devil has touched any food that touches the ground, I stopped picking them up. I stopped picking up food from the ground since I was a kid believing the devil has touched it but now knowing it is not just good for my health

✔️ Your fallen tooth will never grow again when a lizard sees it

As a child then this seem so true to me because then I see some adults without some teeth in their mouth and all that comes to my mind then is "Lizard has seen their fallen tooth" not knowing that this may have happen as a result of their permanent teeth removing at some point in time by accident. So then, anytime my tooth falls off I will always saveguard them and bury them deep down in the ground so that lizard won't mistakenly see them. Nobody wants to be toothless though and that was the main reason I believed all that but trust me it is definitely not true.

✔️ That a tree of any seed I swallowed will grow in my stomach.

Just imagine a person moving around with trees growing in their stomach with stem and leaves on top of their heads😅. That was exactly the way my thinking was when I was still very much younger. So I totally avoided some fruits with too many seed like watermelon and will always be very careful when taking fruits like oranges to avoid the see falling into my stomach. I now know it is not true anyway but I still avoid swallowing seeds from fruit though not because of a tree growing in my stomach but I jst feel it's not right.

✔️ Sitting Down on the bottom of a Mortar will make you shorter

How on Earth is this even possible 🤷🏽‍♂️. Though this more like a superstitious believe but it is not true. One time I traveled down to my home town, it was evening and I decided to help my grand ma out in the kitchen, there was no extra chair in the kitchen apart from the one she sat on. So I turn the big mortar I saw in the kitchen and all of a sudden my grandma screemed that I should stand up. I stood up immediately and when I asked her why, then she told me that I will be short if I sit down on a mortar. Well I later confirmed that was a lie because my elder brother do that alot and he is the tallest in my house.

IS THERE ANYONE OR BODY ATTRIBUTED TO THAT BELIEF? AND HOW DID YOU GET TO KNOW THE TRUE PICTURE?

Yes of course, I definitely wouldn't have start believing things on my own just like that. I believed most of these statements from both my friends, my siblings, my parents and even my Grandma. Some of these things were made known to me out of ignorant because some of them still do not actually know the clearer picture, and also some of this statement too were said to me so as to guide me . Like "the Fallen tooth that will not grow again when lizard sees it", and the "tree growing in my stomach" where all mad known to me by my childrenhood friends who also don know anything then. While the "becoming short when sitting on mortar" and "devil touching my food that fell on the floor " were mad known to me by my parents and grandparents ma.

WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION WHEN I FINALLY UNDERSTOOD THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER? HAS THE OLD BELIEF AFFECTED YOU IN ANY WAY( GOOD OR BAD) OR WAS ANY LESSON LEARNT IN THIS PROCESS?

I will always laugh remembering that fact that I actually believe some of this thing then. And sometimes I'll be like this people should have just tell me the truth and I will still understand
Instead of lying to me.

Well some of these believe has in one way or the other affected me both positively and negatively.
On the positive part; since from my childhood till now
i. I will never pick up food or snack from the ground no matter what, and I believe that is advisable for my health
ii. I never sit on a mortar after all it is not a chair, it is ment for something else
ii. will never swallow the seed of a fruit even though I don't know it effects but I just feel its not right
On the negative part; till this date I do not like eating water mellon because I got use to not eating eat and now I will feel like vomiting any time I try to take it.

DO YOU THINK YOU CAN EASILY BELIEVE SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THAT IN THE FUTURE

Though my minds are open to new ideas and I'm also willing to change for the better when I have better ideas but I'll definitely not believe some sort of cheap tails anymore. I only believed some of the lies I believed because I was younger and believe people older than me are wiser but not anymore.

Conclusion

It was not really funny as it is now like then I believed all these statements but definitely man has grown up and grown wiser. There are so many others to talk about but I'll stop at these ones and allow other people share there own view too. It is indeed a wonderful contest that bring forth some of the old memories.
