Pain and Gain

Pain is a versatile term which could be viewed and understood from various angles or in different ways.
Pain in this case, could be seen a distressing or unpleasant feeling you get from an uncomfortable situation. Pain could be internal or external depending on the factor giving rise to the pain.

Gain on the other hand and as a verb means to acquire, obtain or receive an advantage or profit. As a noun, it refers to that which is secured or earned from a process. Gain is usually useful, productive or profitable to the person at the receiving end.

What do you understand by the statement; No pain, no gain.

The statement; no pain, no gain is an idiom which dates back to the 1980s as it was used to emphasize on the value of hardwork or painful work.

From my perspective, the statement doesn't not really refer to physical pain where it says "pain". It is more or less talking about the efforts or sacrifices we make in order to achieve a particular goal, which in this case is the "gain".

Yes, I do.
As someone who believes in the concept of hardwork and going through the needed processes, I am in support of the statement in question. This ground may be questioned on the note that some people may be privileged to get certain benefits or certain things there desire without having to work for it.

Though this is true, this is also where our definition of gain comes under examination. For me, getting your gain with no hardwork is admirable but not complete because you get to miss out on other form of gain which might not be mentioned but are also essential.

Working hard or putting efforts into getting what you want may teach you patience, consistency, broaden your knowledge on certain aspects of life. Since all these count as gain, I believe the real gain comes with the hardwork we put into it.

Share an experience for or against the statement.

As stated above, I'm for the statement. My stand could be seen an experience I had while sitting for my Jamb exams. Knowing how important the result of this exams was to me, I decided to dedicate my time and effort in studying very hard to pass.

I read through so many past questions, studied my notes, asked questions where I was confused, saw YouTube videos for better explanation and at the end of it all, I sat for the exams and aced it with flying colours.

With this experience, I strongly believe genuine gain comes with hardwork.

Pain makes us feel bad and unhappy. Many people love to gain but they are not ready to pass through the pain of gaining. You have written well. Good luck to you.

The pain aspect does not necessarily need to involve feeling bad and unhappy.
It could just be a form of training, building up your character, helping you to be resilient, patient, appreciate etc
After passing through such phase, we don't just get the actual gain we were looking forward to, we also gain in other subtle ways which we may not notice.

Thanks for going through my entry.
Good luck to you too.
