From far and wide
From different religions and backgrounds we've come
Together we form in one accord
To obey a must the clarion call

The sound of the bugle an enemy of the ear
Sounding so loudly even the deaf can hear
A perfect substitute for a cock that crows at dawn
Following jumping out of bed and racing
As if someone is after your life
"Double up, double up" a nauseating word that stirs the body's motion

All dressed in white tops and shorts
Geared up tight like a fired shot
Standing, kneeling, squatting and rolling
Squeezed and drilled like a rat in a hole
Strange how this is the right trainings

Our legs swollen and hands shaking
Our head aching and heart panting
Ambulances at standby to help with emergencies
Oga commander ignoring our murmuring
Otondo, idiots, white fowl the response we hear

The parade, the drills, the games and lectures
A routine in motion fast becoming a culture
The fun we crave and the stress we get
Yet all we can say is "sir, yes sir" to their commands
Dawn to dawn our soul we pray is saved.

Three weeks they say, a year it looks
Like a criminal whose name is in the book
Bound but in freedom within the walls of the camp
Lost but found in a location on the map

The future from now we see
As youths we pledge to lift our nation high
Under the sun or in the rain
The troubles of the Nation we bang under our feet
Left and right salvation we meet

There is indeed beauty in diversity
NYSC has again taught us again to be one
In other to grow in peace and harmony
Because we stand in unity and fall when divided.
