CULTURE, A WAY OF LIFE

Hello to everyone in this great community today. I want to believe that we all are doing just great. I welcome you all to another great weekend here in Nigeria, and I hope we are all taking our time to rest after a long week.

Today I will be discussing with us all concerning a particular topic which I have tagged Culture, a way of life. This is an interesting topic which I want us all to pay attention to and learn as I drop my article below. I wish you happy reading.

We have been hearing the word culture most times and as such, it will be good if I explain what culture is all about.

WHAT IS CULTURE?

Now culture is said to be a particular way of life of people. Culture is indeed a belief of how things should be done, how to dress, and so on.

It is the seen as an embedded pattern which some group of persons that are from the same ethnic group are accustomed to. The culture of a person can sure tell where the person is from.

In Nigeria, we have different states and local governments, different languages, different tribes, different ethnic groups and different cultures. But we have just six(6) geopolitical zones which can make the differentiation more simple than complex.

The six(6) geopolitical zones are, North central (NC), North east (NE), North west (NW), South west (SW), South east (SE), and South South (SS).

Now this geopolitical zones helps to combine different ethnic group that share little bit of their culture with one another. Now every geopolitical zones has it own culture and tradition, the way of life of these zones are different.

Like I said earlier, culture is the way if life of the people. We all have different ways of dressing, our dishes are different also and the way we greet elders also differs and most especially, our languages differs too.

We were opportune to teach our children in school about culture and explained to them why we should embrace our culture. Culture shows the uniqueness in us. It brings about patriotism, our individual ways of life is what makes us special.

As such, it is expected that we know out culture so well and not just that, we have to know our various languages, the dress code, the dishes and how to interact in our respective cultures and traditions.

We had a cultural day in school and every child was asked to come along with his or her cultural attire in other to showcase our individual uniqueness and specialties.

The day came and the hall was set up for the cultural day. Teachers also came with their individual cultural attire, and so as the children. The day was so colorful as everyone was flaunting his or her on culture attire, how lovely.

Presentation was made by different geopolitical zones in different manner such as, fashion parade where we get to see their different attire and uniqueness of their walking style of their respective cultures.

Dance moves were also presented by each geopolitical zones, showing the harmony of their special musical instruments and also with their different moves, we got to see how they dance and perform in their culture and it was great.

Dishes were also brought forward, we saw different kind of dishes from different geopolitical zones. They also gave a brief and concised explanation on how those dishes were prepared and the necessary ingredients that are needed in the preparation of such dish.

The students also explained the wonderful creative art which brought about the cultural day program. They talked about the NOK ART, the IGBO UKWU ART too. It was a wonderful presentation.

The idea of the annualcultural day is to consistently remind our children about their culture and where they come from. It is necessary to intimate your children about the culture and tradition of your people.

Clearly, the world is expanding everyday and things are changing. Everyone is getting too busy that our children are left behind in certain knowledge which they are supposed to know so well. It is expected to create time and discuss your culture with your children, let them know what culture entails and the certain rites performed in your tradition.

This will help them pass the information to their offspring so that our culture will not go extinct, it will continue from generation to generation just the way our forefathers did.

In as much as we are in the modern world, it is expedient that you teach your child about your culture because it is very important not just to help them know it, but also to help them pass it to the generation ahead.
