Good day fellow steemians in the Steem4Nigeria community. I once again warmly welcome us all to the 6th week which is the final week of the Steemit Engagement challenge season 12. The contest has always been educational with interesting topics and the final week also did not disappoint as we have just been presented with another amazing topic "My country; my Home" all thanks to @xkool24 for publishing such a wonderful one.

Tell us about your Home (Country), a brief history

I come from the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa and the most populous black nation on earth. The name "Nigeria" was derived from the Niger River which runs through the country and was coined by lady Flora Shaw, a British journalist and the wife of a British colonial administrator, Baron Frederick Lugard.

The west African country became a British protectorate in 1901 which lasted until the 1st of October 1960 when the country became independent. The Nigerians independent drive started to gain traction after World War Two so the British had no option than to announce the decision to grant independence in 1960.

Nigeria has had a total of 16 head of states since it became independent in 1960. The country was ruled by Elizabeth II as Queen of Nigeria between 1960-1963 because she was the only reigning monarch at the period. Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa became Nigeria's first Head of State in 1963 after the country became a republic.

Why do you think your country is unique? Share at least 3 points

Nigeria is a country with so many things that makes me think it is unique, although it is. There are numerous specialties about my country and I will be sharing some here with us.

  • Diversity - Nigeria is known and called the Giant of Africa, this is because of the vastness of its land, the huge population and the diversity of its people and languages. Nigeria has over 500 indigenous spoken languages and over 250 ethnic groups. The nation is known for three major ethnic groups which are Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo, each with their beautiful and unique modes of dressing, tradition and culture.

  • Entrepreneurship - Nigeria is known as the most technological, fashion and creative hub in Africa. It is the home for the second largest movie production industry on earth. Apart from being the home for numerous production industries, it is also the home for the Africa and World's largest single train oil Refinery situated in the Lekki area, Lagos state. One of the world's and African Richest man, Aliko Dangote CEO of the Dangote Groups is also a Nigerian.

  • Natural view and beauty - My country is blessed with so many wildlife reserves and natural landmarks such as dense rainforest, Yankari national park and waterfalls, Cross River national park and so on. Nigeria has so many recognizable sites such as a 725m-tall monolith, the Zuma Rock.

  • Natural resources - Nigeria has so many natural resources apart from being the largest oil and gas producer in the continent, Nigeria is also rich in other mineral resources such as coal, uranium, limestone, iron ore, Cassiterite, gypsum and so on.

Would you leave your country to settle in another if an opportunity shows up? Back up your answer with reasons

Nigeria is currently nowhere to write home about for educated and graduated youths. YES, I will leave my country to settle in another country if I have the opportunity to do so.

Every country is either faced with the problems of poverty, unemployment or other problems but as for my country, we are faced with both as the rate of unemployment and poverty keeps increasing everyday, people are dieing of hunger with other problems backing them up like insecurity, kidnapping, banditry and all that. The Education system of the country is also getting poorer by the day.

I am a graduate, a certified Cabin Crew / Flight Attendant who has applied to so many Nigerian Airlines without any hope of getting called up anytime soon.

If I am presented with an opportunity to work as a Flight Attendant in another country today, I will gladly take up the opportunity and leave. I have always wanted to work with international Airlines like Emirates Airways, Qatar Airways, Air Peace, Ethiopian Airlines, British Airways, Etihad Airways and so on. I will be very happy and excited if I am able to secure a job with any of them.

What areas of your home (country) would you love to see an improvement?
pexels-pixabay-264146.jpg Pexelspexels-maël-balland-2076828.jpg Pexels

There are many problems facing Nigeria today and many areas needs serious improvement. Some of these areas are;

  • Security
  • The fight against corruption
  • The Country's Economy
  • The Education system
    And more.

I would say the security sector of the country needs immediate improvement because there have been issues of insecurity around the Country such as:

  • The Boko Haram insurgency in north-east which is now being substituted by terrorism and banditry in north-west.
  • The increase in gang and ritual brigandage in the south-west
  • The militancy, piracy and oil theft afflicted to the south-south
  • The north-central battling with the deadly farmer-herder crisis
  • The criminal opportunism and the separatist violence facing the south-east part of the country.

The aforementioned are dire security threats which need urgent and effective attention of the government. I am using this wonderful opportunity to appeal to the Government of Nigeria on these life threatening issues for their swift actions.

Conclusion

In conclusion, no matter where you go, home always remains home. Nigeria is my home, I love my country dearly without succumbing to the pressures and I will advise you to love your country too because it is your home. Thanks for your precious time spent reading through my post, I wish you good luck.
I will invite my very good friends @emmy01, @bossj23 and @blessingogah-1 to participate in this contest.
