A Lesson About my Profession || by @simonnwigwe
Hello guys,
Welcome once again to my blog. It is yet another interesting contest organised by the @steem4nigeria community. The just-concluded contest was also very amazing as we were able to start our achievement for the first quarter of the year 2022. This week's contest talks about a lesson about my profession. I am so delighted to have this wonderful opportunity to share with us all my profession.
Introduce yourself and tell us your profession or your skills.
My name is Nwigwe Simon Sunday and my steemit username is @simonnwigwe, I am from Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State Nigeria. I am the second-born child in a family of six (6). I graduated from Federal University Wukari in Taraba State where I obtain my first degree in computer science. Presently, I am running my Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) program with the Nigerian Teachers Institute (NTI) Kaduna.
In a classroom with my students
I am a teacher by profession. Despite studying computer science for my first degree, it was a privilege on my part to work as an assistant lecturer at the college of education Akwanga, Nasarawa state. I developed a love for teaching during this period of my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). And for that reason, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a more qualified teacher by enrolling in the PGDE program.

What will you like to teach us?
Well, as of today I will be teaching us what education is all about. A lot of people do not understand what we mean when we talk about an educated person. Some people think an educated person is someone who has attended higher institutions. But today I have come to enlighten us using a different view entirely. No one is illiterate or uneducated. Everyone is educated in his/her way.
The reason I said this is because we all have different views and opinions on different matters and the way we handle it is the way we understand it, before school came to us, our forefathers have been solving issues, does it mean they are not educated because they did not go to school? The answer is no because despite your level of education there are certain things you can never solve and for that reason, those who didn't go to school but solve the issues have proven their education.
A roadside Akara seller once met with a young lady who happens to be a serving corps member, she came to buy Akara and met some persons in a queue but instead of her joining the queue she started ordering the Akara seller to give her Akara that she is in a hurry. The woman ignored her but she continually shouted at the woman so the woman said to her "I thought you are educated". So on hearing this I decided to analyse her statement as an educationist and I found out that the woman has proven to be more educated than the corps lady.
Why do we need to acquire this knowledge that you have passed?
From the analysis I have made above, you will notice that no person is illiterate or uneducated because everyone is educated in his or her way. Going to a higher institution does not make one educated. The scenario of the young corps member and the Akara seller has proven that education is not all about attending higher institutions.
So I want to believe that after reading this article our perception of being educated will change for good. Educationists don't regard not going to school as being illiterate or uneducated but they believe that everyone is educated in his/her way. Once you are educated, it should show in your behaviour and there should be an impact on your immediate community proven your education.
Talk about how technological advances have affected your field. This can be positive or negative.
Technology has gone a long way in affecting education and also affecting me as a teacher in a more positive way. Technology has gone a long way in making teaching easy and even better. The impact of technology can be seen during the Covid-19 pandemic when schools experienced a complete lockdown for about a year. During this period, the virtual system of teaching was adopted by many schools and the academic activities continued with students learning from their various homes.
Another impact of technology on my profession is that research became easier and faster. Whenever any person is making research on any topic at all, he gets a thesis for the topic under review online, he doesn't need to go looking for textbooks in the libraries any longer. This normally takes a lot of time but with the help of technology, one can download this textbook online and then make their analysis.
Conclusion
In education, we learn a lot of things, and being humble is one of them. No one is illiterate because everyone is educated in his/her way. Whenever I talk about teaching as my profession, I am always delighted because education has taught me humility among other things. I have been able to learn from even the students I teach, I also tend to learn from everyone I meet because everyone has one thing or the other to offer.
What a wonderful write up. I believe with this, the perceptions of many will change about education. Thanks for sharing this.

Sadly, most educated persons are still lacking in having good manners. I believe being educated is way more than just going to school to read books and pass exams. Our attitude matters a great deal if we say we are educated..
Yes! You're very right.. technology really helped in the education sector during the pandemic, somehow, studies were not put to a full stop!
I enjoyed reading through your post!
Thanks for sharing..
Thanks my friend
You're welcome!
Nice post my friend it's very well explained
Kai, this lesson is super. What some people don't know is that there are formal and informal learning.
Learning is not just all about something and being tutored. You have to still engage in the informal learning for you to be complete and his takes place everyday anywhere.
Formal learning has to do with our Western education as in; being in a classroom and being taught. It's planned.
Informal education is learnings we do as we interact with people and the environment. It's unplanned.
It's very unfortunate that some people who claimed to be 'educated' behave stupidly than people who hasn't been in a classroom before. Thanks for the lesson, @simonnwigwe.
