Love is a strong feeling that arrives unexpectedly, like an unwanted visitor, and sweep us off our feet, altering the course of our lives in ways we never expected. Sometimes, you feel you’re being hypnotized.

Reminiscing about the crazy things I’ve done for love after reading the topic made me smile. I know you will be interested to hear the story of how it happened. Before going ahead, let me invite @blessb, @mandate, and @cletuskevin.

• Love can destroy policies.

Growing up, I had strong policies about not fraternizing with a lady in church because a lot of people have turned church into a social gathering rather than serving God. But the day I sat down with one beautiful lady who was invited, I removed such crazy policies from my head. In fact, I forgot I was in a church; the whole preaching that day was just a waste because I was in love.

• Love can blur boundaries.

After church, we exchanged numbers, and that was the beginning of my first ever relationship. There was not a single day we didn’t call each other 8 to 10 times, excluding 2go chats. The longest calls of them all were the free midnight calls. I had always hated people bothering me at night, so I put my phone on silent, but because of love, all those boundaries were shattered. Love made me prioritize her happiness over my own needs. I dared not miss her calls at night.

• Love induces recklessness.

Remember, I told you she was an invited guest in my church. As a member of that church, I was supposed to make her an abiding member, but it seems everything turned around. I left my church for hers and became a Deeper Life member. My love for her then made me make so many impulsive decisions.

• Love will make you spend unnecessarily.

Since we were still in university, but in different schools, I wanted to impress this young lady. My mum's abandoned car— I went to fix everything inside, changed all the faulty parts, and drove it to her school just to appear as a “rich kid.” She was really impressed. As soon as she entered the car, it started coughing out smoke and making unnecessary noise from the exhaust. It refused to start. We were so embarrassed that day after all I’ve spent in fixing it.

• Love will ignite hidden creativity.

That day, we had a little fight because of the car, and I think I said some hurtful words, that got her pissed off. I tried calling she refused to pick, I decided to craft out a beautiful piece of love letter, sprayed it perfume and then sent it to her through her kid brother. Immediately, she read the letter, she came downstairs from her house to come and see me. The love letter actually worked. I knew love had unblocked a hidden talent and inspired artistic expression in me.

For me, it is quite hard to explain. The initial feelings in the beginning stage are always beyond our control. Look at my own case. Immediately I saw this lady, I don’t know if the butterflies missed their way, but I was sure they were in my tummy. The emotions were just rushing like a whirlwind, and it was out of control. The overwhelming attraction and connection were so magical; I just knew Cupid’s angel had shot me with an arrow.

But as time goes on, the love spell starts fading, and we are now faced with reality. We are now faced with a choice: either to fight to keep this relationship or go our separate ways. If you choose to keep the relationship going, know that sustaining love requires commitment, effort, and sometimes compromise.

I really wish I knew the answer, but one thing I’m sure of is that when you are in love, it’s you two against the world. You are ready to make any sacrifice just to show how much you appreciate each other. These actions are driven by the hope of a shared future and the happiness that comes from being with a loved one.

In management, they taught us Maslow's five hierarchy of needs, and “love” happens to be the third one. This tells you that humans are social animals, and the actions taken for love are often necessary because love gives life meaning, joy, and fulfillment.

With this particular lady, I didn’t rehearse what to say. Conversation just flowed, and the fact that she loves to talk and was fun to be with made conversation never boring.

But there was this particular girl in secondary school who always came to pick up her kid brother. I always had a crush on this girl, but I never had the guts to talk to her. There was never a time I wasn’t rehearsing pickup conversations in front of the mirror that I would use on her, but whenever I saw her, I just froze. Till I graduated from secondary school, I never spoke to her.
