Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 32: What I wasn't taught in school by @rossnenye
Are you of the opinion that school can teach you everything or you've got a contrary opinion? |
---|
No, we can't learn everything from School even though it is a citadel of learning. As a graduate, having passed through various stages in schools, have come to the conclusion that we can't t learn everything in School. You can't learn common sense, how to make money or self discovery in school.
Even as a student, you can't learn everything from your Lecturers. For you to excel excellently, you have to put in extra effort. How do expect to learn in a class occupied by almost 2000 students with the Lecturer teaching without Public Address System.
What was that situation you found yourself that your years of learning in school could not fix? |
---|
During my Final year project Lab work. I find it very hard to carry out some of the basic lab practicals which someone in my Level should be able to carry out without lifting a finger, this was because practicals courses were not taught very well in my School. We were only taught the theory part of our Course.
Even when the practicals hold, you will see an instructor demonstrating to hundreds of students and some times without Public Address System. The Lab Technicians don't even allow us to touch the equipments and even when they allow us to, they usually assign one equipment to a group of fifty students. Imagine that type of Scenario.
How did you end up fixing the issue? |
---|
Thank God for YouTube tutorial Video, it was my saving grace. During my Lab work, I watched lots of YouTube videos that helped me to carry out my experiments.
In your opinion, how should learning in school be viewed and handled. |
---|
In my view, I feel the School authority should do better with the practical aspects of various Courses. Practicals should be taught more than theories because people remember what they see faster than what they heard.
Secondly the learning environment should be made conducive for students, I know so many times I had to leave the Lecture hall because the place was suffocating and I wasn't hearing what the Lecturer was saying.
Lastly Courses like Copywriting, Freelancing, Data science, UI/UX, Programming Software, Coding Engineering, should be taught in our Various Universities because they're the new oil money in the World today.
Thanks for reading through my post. I invite @abija, @jidenna and @knaus to participate in this contest.
