Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 45: Marriage and it's Environs
It's my pleasure to participate in this contest, When we talk about marriage I will be sharing my experience and how I have seen it in my environs. Some times I keep wondering if the faulty is from the men or women. Let me dive into the hints of the contest proper.
What do you think makes a marriage successful?
To me there's no specific yardstick for a successful marriage. But to be on a safe side in marriage there are few things to consider .
Selflessness. Couples who takes One's problem personal have the tendency to succeed in marriage. As such successful marriage can be determined by how selfless the couples are to one another.
Trust. Trust plays a vital role in marriage. For marriages to be successful there must be trust from both parties.
Communication. Without communication in marriage I doubt if the union wil work well. Therefore for marriages to be successful there must be communication.
Finance. I have seen in my environs where money made a successful marriage. Since money can stop nonsense, some people both men and women try to make a successful marriage as long as there's money.
How can couples improve communication in their marriage?
Communication like I said is very important, for couples to improve on it they need to give themselves a listening ear, they should try and understand each other's actions and thoughts. They should try to focus more in solution rather than blames.
Discuss the importance of trust in a marriage.
The importance of trust in marriages can not be overemphasized . When there's trust there's that confidence that overwhelmed every other behavior. When there's trust it creates more bond between the couple. When there's trust there will open mind of confiding in your partner
How do couples navigate conflicts in a healthy way?
Hmmmm, there must be conflicts in marriage but to handle it in a healthy way involves the selflessness of the two people. Couples should always have a forgiving spirit in order to navigate conflicts in marriage. Inviting outside parties for settlement is not necessarily important at all time ,hence they can talk over it and settle within.
Lies should not be found this can help navigate conflicts, because lies lingers and brings fought conflict.
Prayer can be of help. Most couples who pray together can always navigate their conflicts in a healthy way.
Do you consider distance between spouses and cultural differences a problem in marriage? Why?
I believe that distance and cultural differences can be a problem in marriages.
There's these couple in my environs, they were waiting on God for a child, no body can predict that things could fall apart so easily because of how they love themselves. One day the woman got a transfer letter to another state. When she left it was the husband who stayed back because of his own work. Could you believe that this woman came with another man to tell her husband that she is no longer interested in their marriage. To cut the story short that was what distance caused.
Cultural differences.
In Nigeria, we have different tribes with their own culture, Sifonobong is an Akwaibom girl married to Hausa man. The cooking of Akwaibom people is what Sifonobong knows while the husband likes his tribal soup, no one wants to adjust they keep cooking different pot of soup in one house until one day . The man sent the wife packing because of the soup she cooks for him. You can imagine what cultural differences caused Sifonobong.

I like your reasons for a successful marriage but I am a bit surprised that money could influence a marriage. We the Indians treat marriage as a relationship that lasts forever and some communities go even beyond that. My simple belief says trust, adjustment, and love are the fundamentals that make a marriage successful.
