Workers day is one of the holidays celebrated in Nigeria. It is indeed a necessary one because it involves a major sector of the nation's economy.

Why do workers celebrate their day?

Almost every adult falls into the category of being a worker. From health workers to civil servants to workers in different professions, a nation can't function without them. Most workers, especially those in essential services like healthcare, sacrifice their time and energy to make sure that they are there for the people. Sometimes these workers have to sacrifice their time with their families in order to provide their crucial services.

I remember during the COVID-19 pandemic how health workers were the heroes. They were overworked, overstretched, out-staffed but they still stood firm for their patients and fought the disease. Some even lost their lives in the process. That is just an example of why workers should be celebrated.

Being a worker is not easy. You have to do certain tasks for hours depending on your job description and you have to be consistent at it. I believe that the work force is the engine of every economy and so, workers have to be celebrated.

To your own understanding, what is the meaning of Workers' Day?

Workers day is the day mapped out globally in order to celebrate the labour force(workers) in a country. May 1st of every year has been chosen for this event.

No country can survive without labour. Workers do their jobs so that the economy will run smoothly. So it's only wise that a day be designated to celebrate these amazing set of people.

Workers day is usually a public holiday in Nigeria. It is a day people should celebrate and appreciate every worker. We all know at least one worker in our lives, and some of us could be workers as well. Workers day is a day for workers to appreciate themselves for all the work they have been doing. It's a day for them to look at what they've accomplished so far and be proud of themselves.

Do you think we Steemians should have a special day aside to celebrate? If yes, tell us the best day and how the celebration should be done

Yes, I think stemians should have a day set aside to celebrate. I suggest it should be on the 1st of September every year. The reason I picked September is because it starts with the letter "S", which is the same for steemit.

It can be celebrated with a hashtag on steemit platform. Steemians can also write about how steemit has affected their lives positively.

What should we do on Workers' Day?

On workers' day, we should reach out to everyone we know is a worker. Whether they work in the civil service, or the health sector, or the media, no matter how small their job is, we should reach out to them and thank them for doing what they do. We should also encourage them. It could be our family members, it could be our friends, or it could be a stranger. We just need to show that appreciation, and it can go a long way.

Conclusion

People take on jobs that affect society. Without these workers, I can't imagine what society would be like. We should not always wait for workers' day to show appreciation. Sometimes a word of gratitude can go a long way.

I am inviting @ishayachris, @peace-woko and @dave-hanny to participate in this contest.
