It is another day to give my neighborhood report. I live in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and there are quite some things to report.

Demolition of buildings

The state government decided to construct a ring road in the state that would span a lot of miles. Information has it that it is a massive project. Certain roads have been marked to be expanded as a result of this project. The result of this is that people's buildings that are by the roadside will be demolished.

In my neighbourhood, virtually all the buildings by the roadside were marked for demolition. As I took a walk along the road, I could see buildings being demolished. It is a sad situation because beautiful buildings were being brought down. What made it more sad was the fact that the majority of structures affected are people's shops. This is their means of livelihood, where they get money to cater for themselves and their family.

Given the horrible economic situation of the country, where there is uncontrolled inflation and immense suffering, the situation is nothing to write home about.

People are frustrated to the core. Those whose shops were affected are searching for shops to rent. However, the landlords are increasing the rent to astronomical amounts because they know that people are desperate and in need. It's so unfortunate. In addition, while these buildings are being destroyed, touts come around and abscond with valuable properties before the owners move them.

Refuse dump

It appears that certain people in my neighborhood do not know the basics of refuse disposal. In my neighbourhood, refuse is being disposed of anyhow and anywhere. Sometimes, refuse is disposed of in the middle of the road. It is an eye sore. The stench from the refuse is very uncomfortable.

There is a waste management agency, and they come to take away the refuse, but the issue is that they don't come all the time, so the refuse just stays, piling up, and causing discomfort to people in the neighborhood. I think that a major way of stemming this issue is to educate every household on proper ways to dispose of refuse. The younger ones should be educated as well as the elderly. This is very crucial.

That is my neighborhood report. Thanks for reading.

I am inviting @josepha, @udyliciouz and @rossnenye participate.
