I come from Nigeria. Nigeria is known as the most populous African nation. Nigeria has the potential to be one of the leading nations in the world in terms of economy and development. However, that is not the case.

Tell us one thing in your country you believe the government should spend money on but doesn't

One thing I think the Nigerian government should spend money on but doesn't is power.

I believe constant electricity supply is the backbone of every industrialized and developed economy.
Any nation that really wants to move forward cannot afford not to have constant electricity. The importance of constant electricity cannot be overemphasized.

A good majority of businesses need power to function. Some are totally dependent on electricity because of the devices they operate with or the nature of their work.

In order to make up for the epileptic power supply, these businesses have to provide power for themselves. They spend more money buying petrol and diesel for their generators in order to function. This, of course, translates to an increased cost of operation which ultimately leads to a high cost of goods and services as well as inflation.
Some small and medium scale businesses find it really hard to survive under such harsh conditions and eventually fold up.

It is common knowledge that the viability of an economy depends to a large extent on the businesses operating in it. Power is a major determinant of the success of these businesses.

Electricity is also important in households. Several crucial household devices need power to function. Simply put, constant electricity supply makes life easier and sweet.

Tell us one thing they shouldn't spend money on but do

For me, it is petrol. Our government spends unnecessary money on petrol. The money the government spends on petrol subsidies shouldn't be spent.

I think petrol subsidies should be stopped totally and let that money be channelled into sectors of the economy that need it the most. Eventually, the market forces will regulate the price of petrol.

The government also spends money importing petrol when Nigeria is an oil producing state. This petrol can be manufactured by us since we already have crude oil. Unfortunately, we do not have the refineries to do this. Rather, we spend huge amounts of money importing petrol. It is sad.

Is the government of your country good at providing its citizens with social amenities? Tell us about the two best social amenities you are enjoying in your country

I would say no. A lot of places in Nigeria do not have these social amenities. These amenities are the basic things humans should have. It's a major responsibility of government. Unfortunately, the government in Nigeria hasn't really done a good job of making sure these social amenities are adequately available.

Well, the two social amenities I enjoy most in my country are good roads and water supply.

Conclusion

Social amenities are basic and should be provided completely by every government. A good government should spend money on the right things, and the people have a responsibility to make the government see that.

Leaders aren't in government for themselves, they are there for the people and it should stay that way.

I am inviting @ugochukwuprosper, @rogue22 and @yakspeace to participate in this contest.
