Steemit Engagement Challenge (SEC)| S12W6- "My country; My Home."
All of us have where we come from. We all come from different countries, tribes, languages, etc. Each country is unique and special in its own way. This weeks contest in @steem4nigeria is just about that. The topic is My country my home. We will be seeing from this contest why it is always said that there is no better place like home.
Tell us about your Home (country), a brief history, will be an added advantage
Nigeria is the country I come from. It is termed to be the largest country in terms of population. Little it is referred to as the giant of Africa*.
It is made up of wonderful people having 3 major ethnic groups;- Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba. It has many other minor tribes and boast of having more than 256 languages being spoken in it.
It is blessed with many sauna and flora as well as many natural and mineral resources.
The country came into being in 1914 when Lord Lugard joined the Northern Protectorate and the Southern Protectorate together to become one country named Nigeria.
She later gained her independence from British rule in 1960. Since then, the country have been embroiled in a civil war which ended in 1970 from 1966, tried several forms of government and is currently under a democratically led government. Our currency is the Naira.
Why do you think your country is unique? Share at least 3 points.
Nigeria is a very unique country for some many reasons. But I would like to mention just three.
Nigeria is blessed with so much mineral and natural resources like:-
Gold
Crude oil
Iron ore
Steel
Palm
With all these abundant resources, trade is encouraged with the western world which provides a source of earning in foreign currencies to balance out our external trades.

Nigeria is also blessed with abundant human resources. We are never lacking in any field. Her citizens are very intelligent and resourceful. Infact the first African Man to win the Nobel prize in Literature is a Nigerian by the name Wole Soyinka.
Presently, in various fields of study all over the world, Nigerians are extremely doing well. We are very hardworking, intelligent, have this we can do it attitude as well as a never say never attitude. This resilient qualities are wonderfully complimented by a friendly and hospitality spirit
hardworking people that can take on any tasks |

Nigeria have over 250 ethnic groups with over 500 languages. This is among the highest in the whole world. With this comes breath-taking cultural diversities, mouth watering dishes and cuisines, unparalleled hospitality and affection. This factor is among the things that makes her an economic hub for any business. No wonder, every business opportunity always comes to Nigeria.

Would you leave your country to settle in another if an opportunity shows up? Back up your answer with reasons.
This is a dicey question. I would say yes and No. You may wonder why.
Nigeria is a lovely country to be. If I am opportuned to secure a nice paying job in Nigeria, I will not have any intention of leaving the country. This is because, when you are able to take care of yourself here, you will feel more at ease, you enjoy a great level of freedom that cannot be enjoyed in another country. Traveling out will basically be for holidays. No issue of racism or color segregation will be experienced by me.
However, considering the current situation of things right now, if any opportunity comes to migrate, such will be utilized fully to travel out for greener pastures. Things are really rough right now. The cost of living is rising every single day. Inflation is taking its toll too. To get an employment that can take care of you and your family is very very difficult. No good infrastructure to enjoy and make use of. The few ones available are for the elite class.
No good medical provisions, many go to bed hungry and rarely eat once in a day.
So under this condition, I would fly off with any slightest opportunity.
What areas of your home (country) would you love to see an improvement?
In every country, there are always a need for improvement. The same is applicable to my country.
Some of the area that I would like to see improvement in is:-
This sector needs total reformation. The low standard of education is really worrisome, mostly contributed by the certificate-based labour market and not skill-based labour market.
Children are not interested in education any longer, after all those making more money are not educated. An instance is the just concluded naija show, where people earn millions just by living a ridiculous life.
Graduates are also half-baked because the lecturers do not know what they are teaching. It is just garbage in and garbage out.
So I would really love to see a change there.
This is important in every country. Lack of medical infrastructure have led to the death of so many patients including relatives close to us. The level of 'coldness' displayed by medical practitioners is a serious cause for worry. There is no value attached to human life any longer.
This problem have also led to capital flight from Nigeria since many pay heavily to access good medical treatment abroad.
Good road infrastructure is basic for any development someone can imagine. The farmer needs to have good roads to transport goods to the market for sale.
Having good road infrastructure makes connectivity to other resources very easy. It even reduces the cost of transportation making it much more affordable.
This is another important element in the growth of any economy. Constant energy supply is paramount. There is need for production in a developing economy. Remember, that production is among the factors needed for development and without power, this is not achievable. If it is not also affordable, many industrialist will prefer imported to local production in order to reduce cost.
So when the economy is over dependent on imported goods, international trade balance will be in the deficit, which usually leads to devaluation of the country's currency, low GDP and so many other negative effects.
Just take I and my steemit writing for example. Unstable power supply made me not to be able to be active as I desired. The power supply is epileptic. They just flash it and take it back. I have to run to a friend that has solar system to power my devices. Its not funny at all.
There are so many other things, but I will stop at these for now.
Conclusion
My country Nigeria is a good country with so many rich resource. Both human and non-human. It is a lovely place to be despite its problems.

Nigeria is a blessed country indeed we are the real Giant Of Africa. We're blessed with riches, natural resources, hardworking people and a great culture.
Leaving this country due to it ups and downs, to secure a good paying job outside is a good idea, but no where feels like home.
You rightly mentioned the areas in our dear country which needs amendment such as education, health care, power, good roads as well as security and the economy...
