SEC15 WK1: "Life on Social Media"

Life in social media seems to be the hype of century. Almost everyone loves social media and interact with it on a daily note. From the grand parents, to moms and dads, adolescents, teenagers, even little kids and toddlers.
Everyone loves to go to social media either to connect with friends or enjoy going through the videos skits and writeups. Like I myself, I like watching the skits and short videos whenever I want to sleep and I find it difficult to do so.

This contest is going to examine how we view this aspect of our lives and where we should place it in order of priority.

Do you support that our daily lives should be put up on social media all the time?

Social media seems to be an integral part of our life just like television and video machines did when they newly came into being.

It helps to keep us abreast of current events online real time. Many people don't even have the time to sit down watch or listen to news, but with the presence of social media, those news are readily captured or heard by many. Additionally, social media handles has become a means of making a living as some persons are vendors and so on.

Despite this positive features of social media, we do not need to be center our lives around social media. It should not form the focus of our lives.

Hence, there is need to strike a balance and keep social media in its proper place in our lives. Just like we need to balance our work and family time, similarly, we need to keep social media in its proper perspective, so as not to affect other precious and more important things in our lives.

So I do not support living our lives around social media all the time but to balance it with other activities.

Have you ever experienced or seen any case where a person has the habit of showcasing his life on social media and the effects turned out well?

Anything posted on social media is exposed to the entire world of both good and bad people. They all have access to such information.

On a personal note, I have not seen someone who has a habit of showcasing his life on social media that have turned out good for the person.

Rather, the person I know about had a very bad experience. The lady is a wife to friend. She is fortunate to have married to a wealthy family. So she lost every single thing she buys, whether it is cars, shoes, clothes, hair styles, etc.

She never knew that some trolls were following her. They traced out where they lived, whom the husband was and the children as well.

On a fateful day. The husband was kidnapped and stayed in the kidnappers den for a month.

He was only released after a huge sum of money was paid to them as ransom. From then on, she stopped posting things about her personal life in the social media.

Do you think all the showcase on social media are true?

No. Not all the things showcased on the social media are true. Most of the things we see about individuals are not real. There is a saying that 'stupid is the one that doesn't listen to news but more stupid is the one that puts faith in every word in the news'. Most are just fake identities or misrepresentations of them.

While few may be true and real, most are fake and untrue.

Most people present themselves as well to do in life. They only show case themselves when they are wearing good and wonderful attires, when they are eating good foods and are having good time. They will never showcase when they are having challenges, tough times, and are wearing old clothes. Thus, they do not present exactly how they are. It is either half truths, outright lies or something else.

Do you feel safe on steemit with your information? What can you say about steemit?

Steemit is a social media platform in addition to being a blogging site. Any information posted, I believe is for public consumption, accessible to all users within the platform. It is only safe as any other social media platform can be. Any information I will not like to see on the bill board should not be posted here on the blog.

Care sould be taken to ensure that important and sensitive information on personal identity should not be posted just like in any social media platform to avoid identity theft and other social media vices.

However, I think with the number of years that I have spent on this platform and I have not seen my information on the platform used for any negative purposes except for when an imposter that I don't yet know the identity used my information to create account on hive blog which I disclaimed and I was rescued by @the-gorilla, and @stef1. This shows that my information is safer here on the steemit blog than any other social media handles. Additionally, the achievement tasks that are carried out by anyone coming into steemit platform especially the achievement 1 task where the greeters examine, scrutinize and verify to ensure that they are real individuals is actually acting as a deterrent to any theft of identity or information to some extent.

The communities here on steemit are also doing their part in identifying users and encouraging them to be verified in the newcomers community.

To be sincere, true and sincere friendships are formed here on steemit. This makes our information safer though caution should still be exercised because, humans can always be humans and they can change. But still, I fell more comfortable here than anywhere else. Hence, here tends to be a safe platform.

Conclusion

Social media platforms can be used for variety of reasons. It could be for fun, learning, training and even money making. So we need to ensure that we will interact with it in such a way that we do not select sensitive information about us or post items which will simply mean a showy display of what we have or even misrepresent ourselves which will make us liers. Balance should be maintained.

When we are showy, it can attract the wrong people to us without them even knowing that those things are real or not.

Just like we act with discernment and tact physically, same should also be applied when using social media.
