ROCK
source
Good day my follow steemians today i will love to write on the topic rock, but first of all what is rock.
Rock can be defined as any aggregate mineral cemented together to form solid.
TYPES OF ROCK
- Igneous rock.
- Sedimentary rock.
- Metamorphic rock.
IGNEOUS ROCK
Characteristics of igneous rock
- Igneous rock are colour in structure.
- They do not occur in layer.
- They do not contain possility.
- They are usually hard and imperious.
- They are Crystalline in nature.

TYPE OF IGNEOUS ROCK
Plutonic (Intrusive) igneous rock
These are rock formed when the moltern magma cool and solidified slowly before getting to the surface of the earth to form large crystal.
e.g of plutonic igneous rock are:gravite, gabbro, and dioriteVolcanic (extrusive) igneous rock.
These are rock formed when the moltern magma cool and solidified rapidly on getting to the surface of the earth to form a small crystal.
e.g are: basalt,pumice,andersite, rhyolite.
EXAMPLE OF IGNEOUS ROCK
- Gravite.
- Gabbro.
- Diorite.
- Rhyolite.
- Andersite.
SEDIMENTARY ROCK
CHARACTERISTICS OF SEDIMENTARY ROCK
- They are non-crystalline .
- They contain fossil of plant and animal.
- They are not resistance to erosion and weathering.
- They are permeable.
- They do occur in layer.
TYPE OF SEDIMENTARY ROCK
- Mechanically formed sedimentary rock.
- Organically formed sedimentary rock.
- Chemically formed sedimentary rock.
Source
EXAMPLE OF SEDIMENTARY ROCK
- Sandstone.
- Coal.
- Limestone.
- Shale.
- Clay.
METAMORPHIC ROCK
CHARACTERISTICS OF METAMORPHIC ROCK
- Some may occur in layer or strata.
- The rock may be hard or soft.
- They are not Crystalline in structure.
- They exist in different colour and texture.
They contain fossils.
EXAMPLE OF METAMORPHIC ROCK
- slate.
- Marble.
- Quartzite.
- Graphite.
- Schist.
Source
WAY METAMORPHIC ARE FORMED FROM IGNEOUS AND SEDIMENTARY ROCK
- Slate are formed from clay (sedimentary)
- Marble are formed from limestone (sedimentary)
- Quartzite are formed from granite (igneous)
- Graphite are formed from coal (sedimentary)
- Schist are formed from shale (sedimentary)
