Good day my dear steemians today i will love to tell you and enlighten you on what a family is.A family is a group of people who are related by by blood, marriage and adoption.

Types of family

• The nuclear family: this consist of the father, mother and children this is because a man only marry one wife to raise children.

• The extented family: this consist of the father,mother, children, aunt,uncles cousins and grandparent .

Function of a family as a group

• For child-bearing
• For socialization of members with the culture of the community e.g greetings,food etc
• For protection,a family protect it's members by providing them with food, clothes shelter etc
• For economic role, adult members are legally in charge of the children until they attain adulthood to become self-reliant or self-sufficient.

Advantages of a nuclear family

• Both parents work to provide money for the family.
• Both parents discipline and modelling appropriate behavior for the children.
• The parent can have privacy in their own house.
• Both are bound to take responsibility for their own children.

***Disadvantages of a nuclear family ***

• Children are neglected and looked after by domestic workers
• Children can easily develop bad behavior due to the bad schedule of parents

Members of the extended family

• Grandfather: the father of one's father or mother
• Grandmother: the mother of one's father or mother
• Uncle: the brother of one's father or mother
• Aunt: the sister of one's father or mother
• Nephew: the male child of one's brother or sister
• Niece: the female child of one's brother or sister.

Disadvantage of an extended family

• All the family members live in the same house and there is no privacy.
• Quarrels are common among the members of the family.
• The family resources such as food, clothes etc are not always enough for every members of the family.
  In a family the role that every members of the family as to play in the family.

Role of the father

• He provides for the family resources
• He is the role model to the family
• He discipline the family members where necessary
• He works and earn money for the family
• He is the head of the family.

Role of the mother

• The mother gives birth to children
• She prepares food for the family
• She also takes care of the house and family clothing.

Role of the children

• To respect and obey their parents and others adults in the society.
• Help or assist the parent with domestic works.
• Work with parents in the farm.
• Learn the culture of the community.
• Love themselves and parent.

In summary i hope I have been able to tell you about family, without a family man existence will be damage.
