CONTEST: Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week32: What I wasn't taught in school
Good day to all my beautiful people around this platform, I believe God has been faithful to each and everyone of us here. It's another beautiful week with an amazing contest to begin with. Your beloved @missyleo is here to also participate in the contest organized by @steem4nigeria with the theme: What I wasn't taught in school let's begin:
📖Are you of the opinion that school can teach you everything or you've got a contrary opinion?
School is a learning center that helps equip us and also helps to impact human on the basic things of life. School setting is only narrow to informal setting and not a formal place. School is only limited to reading and writing.
The truth is that, no school can teach you everything, but can only point to the direction. Just that the society expect too much from the school system without them making effort to bring solutions to their problem.
Don't forget that in the school curriculums it's not everything that's there, they are not updating or upgrading their curriculum as other countries do, forgetting that the world is evolving and one need to catch up with the current realities.
📖 What was the situation you found yourself in that your years of learning in school can not be fix?
This are my pupils engaging in serious reading
There's a saying people normally say " That education is the key but the padlock has been changed I am a graduate of Computer Science from our prestigious Heritage Polytechnic Eket, AkwaIbom state. Through out my 4 years there I have not been able to see any lecturer using computer in practicalizing what he teaches on theory, but this is something I have learned from a business center in just 6 months.
There are jobs I applied for and as a graduate I was qualified but the skill needed was what I lack because I expected the school to have equipped me with, like typing skills I have zero, I don't even talk of speed that one was nothing to write home about. Not until I went and paid extra money at a business center to learn how to type, arranged documents and also to print.
📖 How did you end up fixing the issue?

I normally get ashamed when I see a job that I'm supposed to do as a computer Science graduate and I will not be able to to do just because I didn't know how to type and print or do something meaningful with a computer system. So I sacrifice alot to go learn some of these things from a business center, that was how I was able to defeat that part.
📖 In your opinion, how should learning in school be viewed and handled?
Learning process with my girls
The school should create a skills acquisition center and make it a compulsory task for everyone to acquire one important skill of their choice so that at the end they can be self-employed if there's no white collar job for them.
School should not only depend on theory aspects of teaching alone, they should dive into more of practicals. And the school curriculums school be updated and upgraded in every two two years or one one year so that they can catch up with the current realities.
Conclusion
The school and the society play a vital role in the teaching process. The school and the society are the backbone of impacting knowledge in human life. Even with our degree we can't learn from it as we learn from human behavior.
I will like to invite @megareigns, @sahar78 and @ekemini01 to join in the contest.

Upvoted. Thank You for sending some of your rewards to @null. It will make Steem stronger.
School is there to impact the informal way of life in us but then, too much expectations from school can make us loose out on the basic things needed there in the labour market, I think we should balance skill acquisition, moral standards and societal ethics while also being equipped in school, it will really help with the equation.
Best of luck my friend.
Your reflection on the limitations of formal education in providing practical skills and the necessity for continuous learning beyond the classroom is well-articulated. It's unfortunate that many educational institutions lag behind in updating their curriculums to keep up with evolving trends and technologies. Your suggestion of incorporating practical skills acquisition into the school curriculum is a proactive approach to addressing the gap between academic learning and real-world application. Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights in this contest, and for advocating for a more holistic approach to education.
I am very more particular about the skills acquisition because that will go a long way helping some students who do not have strong brain capacity to retain memory, but with the skills being done in a practical way they will catch up quickly.
