In your own words what do you understand by the word security

Security is the protection of both people and their property and assets from physical threats. In this digital age, it also includes the protection of data and information against unauthorized access. In the scope of this contest, more emphasis is on physical security of lives and properties.

In your country, in what ways has the government been able to keep the citizens safe?

To keep her citizens safe, Nigeria has a strong law enforcement presence managed by the federal government. Excluding our current issues with corruption, our government have often recruited and trained members of the police force who are takes with protecting the citizens.
To assist the police we also have community policing and other crime prevention initiatives and infrastructure, like street lighting which are solar powered, CCTV cameras in public spaces, hot lines to call for help. Where I live we have quick respon teams stationed all over the place. Once an incident is reported at the office the closest quick response team becomes the first responders. A lot of effort have been put in educating the public about safety and crime prevention.
Nigeria is not having the perfect government, but we have lots of places you can sleep well at night and crime is not openly committed with impunity.

Personally, what do you do for yourself or your family to be safe in your town or country?

I avoid a showy display of wealth that may attract undue attention making myself or family a target. I also avoid inciting people by being honest, transparent and inclusive in business giving all an opportunity to make some revenue.
I also keep simple and clear rules to follow at home, doors most be locked at all time and be alert to possible dangers at all time. And what to do in some situations.

Have you experienced or heard of any case of insecurity (robbery or kidnap)? What happened?

A medical doctor who lives the same street switched to politics, some armed men abducted him. They throw him into the boot and zoomed off. He was also smart enough to open the boot and jump out while the car was in full motion. He got some bruises which I think was better than the experience he would have had in the hands of his captors.

What do you think is the best way to keep a home secure?

Our home will be better secure if physical measures like a gate and a fence that seclude the house. CCTV systems are all hardware but there is also a need for rules and instructions that will help keep the home safe.
This will involve a lifestyle that is simple and modest, with a controlled number of friends and participation in the communities effort to keep the place safe. Most security breach are from insiders. If this are taken care of, the you can be sure of 50% security which to me that is good in this wicked times.
