What is a Door?
A door is a moving mechanism which grants or restricts access into a house or room. In most cases, doors are defined based on the main material used in it's creation (wooden door, glass door, metallic door, PVC door, etc ) and sometimes it is named based on how it was made(panel doors, flush doors), mechanism or usage(Sliding Door, Folding Door, Composite Door, Swinging Door, Revolving Door, etc).
A good door can greatly add esthetics to a house and also has a way of creating an impression of what you should expect inside a house.
In this article, we will be looking into the installation of a double swing door which are also called impact traffic doors or acting door.

These doors are basically called swing doors because they can swing open in both directions.
Most swing doors makes use of special spring loaded hinges like the double action hinges which had been the choice for high traffic door like saloon doors.
Most modern swing doors make use of Pivot Hinges a good example is this door I was installing.
The green arrows shows where the conventional door hinges are often located while the red arrows are pointing to the location of the pivot hinges on this door.
In like the conventional doors, most modern swing doors have their hinges at the top and bottom part of the door.
Advantage
- This type of hinges add a lot of Aesthetics.
- The cost of installing this mechanism is competitively Low.
- This system is well-suited for interior doors and for heavy doors or high-traffic doors.
- this type of hinges make sure the door does not sag under its own weight.
Disadvantage
- Easily gets corroded if used as an external door expecially the hinges at the bottom part of the door caused by exposure to rain water, snow or salt.
- If used as an external door, it results in a very high cost of maintenance.
- The pivot hinges system is not good for wooden door as it often leads to warp with time.

Knock and plumb the door
If necessary, you may have to crack the wall to make sure it accommodates the door, then use a plumb to make sure the door is mounted erect and wedge it in place.
Confirm that the locking and swing mechanism is in order and that the door goes back to a lock position once used.
Secure the door with mortar
Get the sand, water and cement ready, measure out the sand and cement in a ratio for a sticky consistency.
Use the mortar to blind all gaps around the door frame. The sticky mortar is scooped with a trowel and smeared/ slapped on the wall.
Give it some time to start solidifying (set)
Then a range is used to scrape off the excess and level it with the existing wall.
Dressing the door
Put in the finishing touches around the door with a wood rub and a shining towel. A special tool is used to bring out the edges all round the door.
At this point the door is cleaned and ready for inspection. The site inspector will be looking for sharp edges and smooth transition from the existing wall to the finishing.
