Imagine being hated mistreated and even sold by your own brothers...What a sad situation that is.
This is exactly what happened to a young boy who lived with his 11 brothers in their house. He was specially loved by his father and was treated specially by him. He even showed him favor by making a beautiful long sleeveless coat for him and he appreciated the gift so much...
I'm sure you must have figured out by now who I'm writing about. Yes, Joseph was the young boy who was hated by his brothers. They were very jealous of him. But why were his brothers jealous of him?
One reason his brothers were jealous of him because they saw that the father loved him more. There was also another reason why they hated him...
Joseph had two dream which he narrated to his family, in both dreams his brothers bowed down to him, hearing about these dreams made his brothers more angry at him. You will soon see what their hatred led them into doing..
SRC" They throw him into the pit
Joseph's brothers went out one day to take care of their father's sheep, they took a while there and Jacob, Joseph's father, asked him to go check how his brothers are getting along. When Joseph's brothers saw him coming, they started to scheme what they will do to him. The brothers wanted to kill him but thankfully Reu'ben, their oldest brother,says: No, don't kill him!
So they all agreed to throw him into an empty water pit to decide what to do with him.
After a while, some Ish'ma.el.ite men came along and Judah, one of Joseph's brothers, said to the rest: 'Let's sell him to the Ish'ma.el.ites.' and they all agreed and did so.
They sold their brother for 20 pieces of silver...
Joseph's brothers needed something to cover up for what they did, something to tell their father about his disappearance.
They played tricks ok their father by dipping the coat he made for Joseph in a goats blood and making their father to believe that a wild animal had killed his favorite son. This made their father very very sad, his favorite son is gone! He thought and cried!
How mean and unkind it was for Joseph's brother to have done that to him. Imagine how it brought sadness and grief to both the young boy and his father.
Jealousy and hatred is indeed destructive!
