Steem4nigeria Accelerator contest week 40: My worst Highschool experience.

I attended Roselec International Secondary School. The school is located at Ohaigiri junction along Akokwa/ Arondiizuogu road, Akokwa, in Ideato North Local Government Area, Imo State. It was one of the best Nursery, Primary and Secondary school then. My school is well equipped with instructional materials, well experienced, intelligent and qualified teachers. We had students from different countries like America, England and other African countries. The owner of the school is a disciplinarian and an educationist. She is learned, well articulated and good with words. She speak Queen's English fluently. We always stand out as the best school in that area because no other schools can beat us in competitions like march past, quiz and debates, football matches etc. My school was the best so far that period.

My horrible experience started when I choose to be in a science class. I remembered that morning in the assembly ground, the headmistress informed those in SS1 to choose a class either a Science class or an Art class. She made us line up, those that choose Science class were asked to line on the left side while those in Art class lined up on the right hand side. I choose science class because most of my friends are in science class. I was so excited and happy when our names were written down as science students.

I ran home after the school dismissed for the day to share the good news to my mum. Out of excitement, I told my mom that I will be the best Neurosurgeon in the world. My mum was very happy and she gave me a big bottle of coke and 2 big buns. Little did I know that this is the beginning of my ordeal in that class.

I went to school the next day with the biggest thick cover notebook and a biology text book that I borrowed from my big cousin. After the morning assembly, the headmaster who will be handling us in Physics and Chemistry class marched all the science students to the laboratory for our first and second period.

He wrote down the chemical formula and their compounds on the black board which he asked us to recite and repeat after him. At the end of the lesson, he gave us an assignment to learn the chemical formulars and their compounds offhand. He promised to see us in our next class with him which is on Monday.

That fateful Monday morning, I woke up early, iron my clothes, did the house chores and ran to school. My school was opposite our house. After the morning devotions as usual, we the science students went to the laboratory, we sat down , waiting for our Physics/ Chemistry teacher who is also the headmaster of the school. Mr Sunny ( not his real name) was a very tall, slim, handsome, smart and an intelligent man. He is very good in Physics and Chemistry. At 9:15am, Mr Sunny entered the Laboratory with 5 tiny long canes. He asked us to stand up and recite the chemical formulas. Only a few students were able to recite it well with little mistakes here and there. The teacher who wasn't satisfied with the response, asked us to recite chemical formulas and their compounds one after the other. Few students that did well were asked to sit down while those of us that failed to recite it accurately were asked to line up. I was so nervous and scared that my body started shaking and I was sweating profusely. I hid behind the tallest boy in our class. When Mr Sunny flogged the first person, he ran outside through the door because he couldn't bear the pain from the cane. The second person was flogged and he jumped out through the window. There was an uproar in the laboratory. Those students that successfully recited the Chemical formulas were happy, hitting on the desk, clapping their hands and laughing out loud. While the unlucky ones like me were crying and pleading for mercy. When it reached my turn, as the first stroke of the cane landed on my buttocks, I shouted and ran to the back of the laboratory. There was no way to ran outside because the teacher locked the doors and the windows so that we won't escape like others. I was shouting at the top of my voice, calling my mum to come and rescue me. I pleaded with the teacher to have mercy on me that I am no longer a science student that I want to go back to Art class. While I was still begging for mercy, the headmistress who was passing by and heard the noises coming from the laboratory rushed to see what was happening. As soon as the Physics teacher opened the door, I run out of the laboratory, ran to the school gate which was, luckily for me unlocked because of the late comers that were cutting the grasses outside the gate.

I ran home and locked our door. That was the end of science class, the end of chemical formulas, the end of physics and chemistry and the end of being the best neurosurgeon in the world.

Although I regretted changing from science to Art because of that experience. Who knows, I may have actualized my dream of becoming even if not the best but a good neurosurgeon. The lesson that I learnt from that experience is this, even if you fail, rise up again, keep trying until you get it right and never give up no matter the hurdle you find on your way.

I invite my friends @ sbamsoneu, @mandate and @alexanderpeace to share their own highschool experiences.

🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was laughing my hearts out on how you ran away for your life and that was how a great future and carrier ended even before it started. Sorry about the ordeal you went through. Being a science student can be quite a lot. I actually read chemistry but it was quite a lot. It can be tasking but it’s workable if you put your heart to it. The teacher would have helped you recover your passion if he was lenient. It’s well. Thanks for inviting me for the contest. Good luck.

Hahaha, I know it's funny though. I couldn't continue the science class because of fear of cane. Yes, you are right, it's workable if I had put in my best instead of running away from it because of a little challenge. Thank you for taking your time to read my post and for your comment.

You’re welcome
