Greetings friends, today i will be sketching and discussing on elephant and i appreciate the organizer, @benton3 for this contest.

Elephants are the largest known mammal on land. They do eat grasses, leaves, shrubs, fruits and roots depending on the season and their habitat. During dry season, elephants will eat more woody parts of trees and shrubs like twigs, branches and barks.

Good qualities elephant possess

• Elephants are enormous creatures as they are the largest animal on land.

• Elephants can use their incredible size and physique to create space, break through a range of barriers and create paths in the landscape that other animals can use.

• Elephants are unique because they have extremely large ears especially African elephant.

• Elephants have incredibly thick skin and can withstand significant heat, friction and impacts.

• Elephants are highly sensitive and caring with well developed social behaviours, demonstrating empathy and concern for others within the family group and beyond. They are highly intelligent animals which shows complex emotions like humans.

• Elephants do not forget the places they have visited thus can build on understanding of past events.

Species of elephant

• African elephant: Here, we have the African bush elephant and the African savannah elephant.

• Asian elephant: Here species like Indian elephant, Borneo elephant,etc.

Some facts about you should know about elephant

• Elephants can use their trunk to pick up very small things like grains.

• They can recognize themselves in the mirror. Elephant join humans, apes, and dolphins as the only animals with self awareness.

• Elephants are afraid of bees. Thus,farmers even use beehives to scare away elephants from coming onto their land.

• They can have babies until they are 50 years old.

• Elephants are pregnant for 22 months which is the longest gestation period of any mammal.

• Elephants are extremely emotional creatures. They even grieve lost family members.

• African bush elephants are the largest land animals in the world.

• They are the only mammals that can't jump even when they are running, elephants always have at least one foot on the ground.

• Elephant can spend more than half of the day eating.

Elephant has been labelled as endangered species due to wanton poaching for their ivory and destruction of habitat. Remember,help in conservation of wildlife.
Say NO to reckless killing of elephant.
