Steem4Nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 8 - An Indoor Game Native To My People.

Indoor games are numerous in our various cultures. I was privileged to also play this indoor game. The game is fun and I will be explaining how it is been played using the questions below.

Tell us a little about the culture of The People who play this game.

I grew up in the barracks and in the barracks, there are variety of cultures present. I first saw this game played in my neighbor's house. They do not have the board for the game hence the dig the ground and make holes of the same dimension.

The people I first saw playing this game are hausa by tribe. They call it Dara. It is mostly played during the raining season because that is when they are able to dig the ground and make the holes for the game. They also use stones as seed for the game.

How many players can play the game and Is it gender or age sensitive?

Generally, it is recommended that only two persons play the game. They both persons will sit opposite each other with the holes in front of them as their houses or homes. It is not gender sensitive as anyone both male and female can play it at any point and time.

Can the game be played in deferent ways? And What are the rules of the game

The holes all are given four stone (seed) each when the game want to start. The person to play will pack that of a particular hole and then start dropping them into the other holes one after the other in an orderly manner.

He will continue this and when he gets to the hole where he needs to drop the last seed, if there are other seeds in that hole, he will have to pack it and continue the process as the previous. He will do this until he gets to a hole where he will drop the last stone and nothing will be present in it for him to pack and continue except the last seed he drops.

During this process any of the holes that is able to accumulate four seed again in my side or the other opponent's side becomes the win for me or him and should be packed and kept aside.

Can a player cheat in this game? and Are they any useful skills, physical or intellectual ability that can be acquired playing this game.

In every game, cheating is always there. I remember a friend who while playing, the seed will finish in his hands but he will still continue as as if he still have more seed in his hands. Doing is a cheating. Another way to cheat is if the person you are playing with didn't see you, you can pack some out and claim it has completed and you have won that one.

What could you do to preserve this cultural heritage yours ?

It is a game that both the young and the old still play till this day. Though it has been a while I saw people playing it because of the lack of much rainfall. Some believe that playing the game also stops rain from falling and in most cases you see elders chasing children and asking them not to play the game.

So to keep this game active, all we need is to always play it and educate others on how they can play it as well. You dont need much to learn it because it is very simple.
