Introduction

Hello friends, cooking is quite fun when one knows what, how and when to cook, it gaves me great joy when i saw this interesting contest and am glad am participating in it.

What is the content of a standard recipe?

A content of a standard recipe evolve round the ingredients(a detailed breakdown of what will be needed for the recipe, like salt, seasoning cubes, pepper and spices etc), instructions(steps on how to prepare the recipe), cooking time(time taken to prepare the recipe), nutritional value(giving the information about the nutritional benefits the recipe has) etc. Its also includes a way of serving, storing or preserving the recipe.

What is your recipe for transforming the ripening plantain into something really yummy.

Ripening plantain can be transformed in so many ways to give a yummy taste. So here is my yummy recipe for a ripening plantain called "PLANTAIN FRITTATA".

Ingredients:

  • Get a ripe plantain, peel and cut it in small round sizes.
  • 75ml sachets of vegetable oil (or your preference)
  • 3 raw eggs
  • Slice onion
  • A teaspoon of ginger and garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Cury power
  • Round tin sliced fresh tomato 🍅
  • A half sliced green, red and yellow bell peppers (for decoration)
  • Mashed a scout bonnet pepper
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  • Marinate the plantain with the ginger and garlic for 3 minutes
  • In a bowl, break 3 eggs and add a pinch of salt stir and set it aside.
  • Heat up the vegetable oil in a frying pan, on low medium heat.
  • Add the marinated plantain to the hot oil and let it fry for about 10 minutes till its golden brown then remove the plantain from the hot oil.
  • In the same oil add some sliced onion and let it fry for a minute then add the vegetables and stir fry for 3 minutes.
  • Introduce the marinated fried plantain to your vegetables, then pour in the eggs slowly in a circular motion and let it cook for 2 minutes on low heat at one side, then flip to cook on the other side for another 2 minutes.
  • Turn in a flat plate and serve immediately or store it a food warmer to be eaten later in the day. It can stay for a day without getting spoilt.

Tell us more about your choice of spices used.
  • Ginger and garlic powder: The combination of these spies makes the plantain more spicy with a sweet flavour and gives the dish a savory kick, while making the dish more healthier.

  • Curry powder: Adding this takes the dish to the next level by giving a warm taste and a vibrant look. It reduces the blood pressure and improves the circulation of blood immediately after meal.

Vegetable oil: Provides a suitable base for the plantain(so that it won't stick to the pan), It let the spices go into the dish properly and it makes the heart healthy.

How much importance do you attach to presentation and why?

Although people do not take food presentation as importance especially when they are so hungry. I attach so much importance to food when it comes to presentation because: the way food looks could determine the taste of the food, when a meal is well presented, it will be so inviting, yummy and pleasing to the eye even though it may not be tasty.

What was your first experience with cooking and how old were you.

My first experience cooking was an exciting and easy one and i was 12 years when i started doing this. Being the last born of the house really made my first time cooking experience easy, because i was part of the cooking process when I was not eligible to cook, I help in the preparation and presentation of meals and during that time, the steps were well explained and things were well clarified to me. So when my older siblings got their independence, I had to take charge by putting all that I learnt from my Mom and them to practice and I did perfectly well, and was commended for that. That's why anytime my elder brother comes around the house, he will ask for me cooking what will be eaten and not anyone else. Even my hubby @itymartin loves my meals.

Conclusion

Plantain frittata is a tasty, yummy, eye catching and nutritious meal that can be eaten anytime of the day. I hope that my fellow chefs 👩‍🍳 in the house will try it and see how yummy it is.

Una receta muy fácil de preparar y bastante nutritiva, una pizza de plátano o tortilla de plátano maduro, lo cual es un plato exquisito.
Su presentación se ve muy bien y seguramente el sabor será algo especial. Sé que muchos usuarios verán esta receta y la van a sacar para probarla.
