SEC15 WK1: "Life on Social Media"

Hi everyone @Steem4Niheria, welcome to my post. I am so happy to participate in the first week of steemit Engagement Challenge season 15, and it will be interesting to share my view on the topic, life on social media.

When we hear the world social media what quickly comes into our minds is that, it is a digital technology that facilitate the sharing of information and data through different platform such as Facebook, Twitter(the X platform), Instagram, YouTube, whatsapp, and many more. Though a lot of people abuse the use of social media even though It was designed to aids social networking, advertisement, news and broadcasting just to mention a few.

My father always say , "learn from the experience of other people, do not wait until it happens to you, because some experience may not keep you alive to learn from it".

Whilst there is a positive usage of social media, like making posts and earning money through comments/like, it is totally wrong to post our daily lives on social media. This is true because in social media we have friends and foes.
In as much as social media can be used for a good course, for instance I was able to trace a man who mistook my bag to be his , just by typing his name on Facebook, I got his house address, I saw the picture of his family and every other information that enable me get to him and retrieved my bag.

Through social media, our enemies can get a vital details about us and use it against us. For example, a thief was once asked how he knew that the occupant of the house he robbed were not around, in reply he said he saw their post about traveling on social media and that was how he knew nobody was going to be around in the house.

So therefore we have to be careful with the kind of information we share with people on social media, because not everyone that is on our friend list, is actually our friend, some are what call "the monitoring spirits."

Though I haven't been quite a successful social media user myself, nor have I any close friend/relatives who likes showcasing their lives on social media. But in Nigeria being a country with diverse culture/ languages, we have many social media influencers/users, who are successful in showcasing their lives on social media. Example is Mrs. Angela Nwosu, (Angela Nwosu page) with 3.3 millions followers, she films her life, her husband and her maids daily as content. So far, she is happily married while doing her thing. And am sure her account his already monetize.

Life on social media is not entirely true. Believing everything you see is at your own perils. I have had quite a few experience with people on social media. I once met a guy on Facebook who claimed to be an American, then I just joined Facebook, We chatted for some months, I became fond of him, not knowing he was a scammer and impersonator. Then I was using a phone that does not support video call. I only to realized he was a scammer when he told me he has sent me some things through DHL.

A lot of persons have been victims of social media fraud. Most content on social media are scam. Some people doesn't even have what to eat, a good place to sleep, but you see them coming out to boost of their Mansions, the Good Food they eat, the expensive clothes they wear, whereas in real life they are actually begging to eat. Some might even go as far as borrowing clothes, wig cap/weavon, snapping people's houses, just to flaunt and spite whoever cares.

Truly we have some wicked people who have turned the positive use of social media into perpetrating evil. So whilst there are good content on social media we still have the fake contents. So not everything you see on social media is entirely true.

Though am a newcomer still trying to know the nooks/ crannies of steemit.
The little time spent, I can rightly say that steemit make me feel safe, in that, the people here are real, their post is real as it contain visuals to back it up. Because of it security keys, nobody can just encroach into your account or make unnecessary tags.

Steemit unlike other social media is a platform that encourages research and trains scholars through it different interesting topics and contest. Personally, I don't remember the last time I carry out research after school. Because of steemit today, i can research and write on different topics that is out of my field of study.

Steemit holds sacrosanct to it rules. Plagiarism is highly prohibited thereby making a post to reserves it right. And radical behaviors, hateful speeches and malicious bitterness is not acceptable, thus making steemit safe and peaceful. I can rightly say, steemit is like a family.

In conclusion, one can rightly say that though social media is a technology for good but because of the negative uses by some certain people, it not right to show our daily lives on social media.
