SEC S15W4: "Broken Trust"

The word Trust is a global topic as long as human relationship and existence is concerned. Infact, it can be traced back to the first human (Adam and Eve) in the garden of Eden when God entrusted the entire world to them, only for them to disappoint and disobey God. Another case of a broken trust recorded, is that of Cain and Abel. Able trusted his brother Cain and followed him to the field, only for his brother Cain to assault and killed him.

So trust has been a global plague right from human inception till today. In relationship, families and businesses, trust issues is one thing we dread so much and contend with. In the subsequent paragraphs, we will discuss the topic (broken trust) and highlights the following...

According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, trust can be defined as "an assured reliance on the character, ability, strength or truth of someone or something". Simply put, trust is a reliant or dependability on the integrity, strength, ability or surety of a person or thing. In order words, trust, is the confidence/assurance, the instinctive unquestionably belief and reliance on someone else. Trust can be in noun, verb, adjective and even idioms.

Trust as a noun...this is a property/person interest. That is, being in charge of an office held either by an individual, organization, firm or corporation formed by a legal agreement for the benefits of others eg. Child care/custody, property and money. Simply put, trust as a noun is when someone is directly and legally responsible for the well being of a child and safe keeping of property/ money till the appropriate time to be handed over to the rightful owner.

Trust as a verb...as we all know, a verb is an action words. It is a word use to describe action, so trust here is the actual feeling of reliance, to place confident, believe and hope or to expect trust in someone. That's why, you may often hear people say, I regret "trusting" him /her.

As stated earlier, Trust is a global plague common to every one/place and not limited to a particular country.
So yes, like every other place in the world, presently in my country Nigeria, the citizens do not feel safe to trust anyone.
This is because of the high rate of crime committed right from the top (government). The citizens do not trust the government because of the collapse of good governance, corruption, lack of transparency, and ethical dilemma, this inturn has degenerated to lack of public trust as a result the concept of nationhood and patriotism has been broken.

Again people in my country do not feel safe to trust because of high rate of insecurities, cyber crime (internet fraud), kidnapping, robbery, killings, bridge of contract and many more. Because of this distrust, citizens are in a logger head with its representatives ( the government). People are scared to invest in each other, lovers are scared to be committed and marriages kept crumbling down. It is indeed sad to live in a world without trust and integrity.

I think the question should be, is there anyone in this world whose trust has not been broken?

Some years ago a man approached and asked for my hand in marriage, I confided in my elder sister for advice, only for her to turn around after some months, and married the same man and have kids for him
As if that was not enough, when another man asked me again for marriage, still this same sister went and told the man bad things about me. When I confronted her why this much hatred, it resulted to physical fight, she vowed never to allow me get married. Till today, it is a mystery why my blood sister hate me this much. This is the worse form of betrayal of trust. It hurts till today because am no longer in talking terms with my sister.So yes countless times my trust in friends, love once and family have been broken. But the one that hurt mostly is from my family (my immediate elder sister Gloria).

Don Williams once sang a sung that "some broken hearts never mend, some memories never ends and some tears never dries". This is true because mending a broken hearts depends on the kind of hurt/pains. With what I have experience from my immediate elder sister, I don't think I ever wanted to be close to her. Not even my new generation unborn will I want them to be close to her generation. Some wounds are so deep that no stitches can hold it together. Accepting the reality of what has happened,
Take time to grieve, be patient with the healing process and find a new source of joy.
Express yourself, your need, accept others wise counsel and find relief from exercise/movement.
Set boundaries and preventive measures so it doesn't repeat and focus on your dreams /goals.
Very important, practice self care, love yourself and do the things that makes you happy. Always remember, no one can live your life for you.
