Here in my today's Post I'm going to write on a topic My Neighborhood Watch #50 - Reporting Events Around us organized and published by @xkool24 here in steem4nigeria community.

As everyday begins it brings new happenings and events full of possibilities either good or bad. It always comes with a fresh chapter to unfold waiting to be written. Yes, new experiences, encounters and opportunities await us shaping and creating stories in our lives in various ways.

My today's neighborhood's watch gonna be informative and gripping as I'm going to write briefly on the current road amendment and how it affects to citizens around my locality temporary.

The above pictures describe exactly what is going on, the express popularly know as calabar itu road in my city is under amendment. One may asked, what real happened the needed to be ammend?.

Calabar Itu Road as it is popularly know in my city is a federal highway that connects two states in Nigeria "Akwa Ibom and Cross River states" south south region. As it was officially reported, the road is in a state of disrepair due to erosion diversion, a technic to manage the topography.

In May 2024 as it was official, the Akwa Ibom State government announced that the road will be a closing sections for the dual carriageway. This has caused the highway being neglected by a lot of successive administrations despite the fact that the road is used by millions of tourists who visit Cross River State.😟

Just like I did write on my previous neighborhood watch concerning the bad topography in my town, it has affect badly that it destroys a lot of lands and houses.

Though, this disaster didn't directly affects the calabar itu highway, but the linkage would have been incredible lost to the citizens if the option wasn't taken to channel the erosion to a better direction.

The erosion was slowly getting out of hands, as it damaged a lot of citizens properties. Getting noticed by the federal government, it was ordered to take a positive action with immediate effect.

Few weeks ago, the Nsik construction company was called for the technical amendment. Since then there have been working effortless to get everything in place, an underground gutter is made to divert the erosion. This requires the breaking down of the highway so that the connection can be done smoothly.

To secure those who haven't got the information concerning the ongoing construction, the road was blocked restricting vehicle access. Also Nigerian police men are there working avoid citizens getting injured ignorantly.

Aside that a cross work sign has been used from a distance of about 200km away for the place to create awareness of what is going on.

It is really interesting that the federal government showed interesting in making our environment a better and comfortable place to stay, though the citizens are currently going through a temporary discomfort.

How this affect businesses in my area

There's this sayings that says "before getting our desire, we must pay some sacrifice." Yes, the highway connects Akwa Ibom and Cross River States and this poor condition is affecting economic activities in the area because business travelers face challenges due to the road's condition that has been neglected, food supply is and others goods is decreasing.

Though, from my research and information gathered so far. The stakeholders has called for urgent action to address the situation if the will be another option to flow goods importations.
