SEC WK2 : The language in my country || @joymm
Hello everyone.. How are you doing?? Hope things are going as planned?? Its another week of steemit engagement challenge and today, I will be sharing with you about "The language in my country". Below here gat my entry;
What is the name of your country? How many languages can be found in your country?
Everyone has a country where he/she comes from. The name of my country is Nigeria. In my country, there are 525 native languages. Nigeria is one of the most diverse countries with over 500 languages spoken. But amongst these languages, there are three main languages spoken. They include; Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa. The largest tribe in my country is Hausa-Fulani. The Hausa city states are historical cities which is also known as the oldest language in Africa.
Among the listed languages in your country, how many are you familiar with?
Amongst all these languages that are in my country, am only conservant with two languages which is Igbo and Yoruba. 😁 I can speak these languages fluently and freely. I was born and brought up in my country, Nigeria Abia state precisely. So, I learnt Igbo from my parents and people around me while growing up. When I was 12 years old, I traveled to lagos at my uncle's place to stay with them, and lagos is a Yoruba land. So while I was staying with them, I also learnt how to speak Yoruba.
How has this language improved/helped your life and business?
It is always necessary and important to learn your native language. Most children of this generation doesn't know how to speak their native languages. Meanwhile, these two languages that I have learnt has helped me a lot in my life and business. During the time I was still staying at my uncle's place at Lagos, I do go to his shop rite in the evening time to help him out there. People who troupes into his shop to patronize are mostly the Yorubas, that's because majority of people living that area are Yoruba people. So when they come, I do attend to them and that's was how I learnt how to speak and understand Yoruba. This is the same thing applicable to Igbo language.
Are you willing to teach your children these languages? Yes/No. State your reason.
Yes of course. Even if I get married and give birth to my own children, I will teach them these languages, so that when they grow up, it will be part of them. And to all parents who have their own children here in this platform, please learn to speak and teach your native languages to your children. Thank you..!!😊

Hello friend
You shared how the Hausa language is the oldest in Africa stressing that Nigeria has over 525 languages. You explained that there are major 3 languages in the country and you are conversant with about 2 of them. It's so interesting to know that you learnt the Igbo language from your parents as a value, the Yoruba was learnt when you travel to the west to live with your uncle. You got acquainted with it because you always visit his shop to help out. I enjoyed your entry and success in the challenge my dear friend
Joymm, your post talks about Nigeria having more than 500 languages, which is impressive. You've learned Igbo and Yoruba from personal experiences, connecting you to your culture. These languages help you in daily life and business, showing their importance. Teaching them to your future kids is a great way to preserve your culture. Nice job, I wish I have an opportunity to learn all three languages
Success on your entry
Thank you friend..🤗
Hello dear.It is good to know that you are from Nigeria and there are different languages spoken in different regions and more than 200 languages are spoken in your country out of which you know and speak only two languages correctly and You use it in your daily life and you want to teach your children the same way so that they don't face any problem.
Language is our culture.
And Nigerian explore more language in the world.
It's pleasing among the languages you explore well in more than just your mother's tongue,
I so love igbo people and their language, I wanted learning it but too poor I'm not living where much of their indigenes are.
Yoruba as one of the national language in the country sounds well and nice on hearing.
So being able to speak Yoruba to me is a blow because I can't speak either.
But Nevertheless one day I'll still speak them adding to the three I can flow well.
Good luck 🤞
Nigeria my country is a country blessed with more than 250 ethnic groups speaking their distinct language. I think this is one of the factor that qualify us as the guant if Africa. Apart from English Language and my mother tongue, I will be happy to learn other languages like Igbo and improve on my Yoruba language. Teaching your children your mother tongue will ensure that the language doesn't go into extinct. Good luck on your post.
