INTRODUCTION
Marriage is beautiful and incredible. Marriage to me is more spiritual than physical because of it's significant and the mysteries in it.
What makes you think that some people can date for years and immediately they get married they start to have issues.
Thinking that marriage is just the coming together of two individuals to live together is wrong. Marriage goes beyond that.
Marriage in it's true sense is not just the coming together of two to live together, rather it is the coming together of two persons to form just one person.
In marriage, the two partners come together to share both their weaknesses and their strengths until they both bond to the point where they look so much alike and this is not accomplished in a month or year.
As I said earlier, this happens both on the spiritual and physical levels.
Marriage makes the real you visible to the world and not just your partner.
Just as money reveals the inner you, marriage does same too.
If you are lazy, in marriage we would know.
What do you think makes a marriage successful?
To me, there are a couple of things that makes marriage successful. The first I'll say is
- Communication: Communication is vital in marriage. Without communication, both partners will not know each other.
Marriage between two people who don't communicate can't really work. This helps you understand your partners and also bound you guys.
- Trust: Asides from communication, trust is also very important. This is important because you have to trust that your partner is sincere and genuine to you .
Trust is key in marriage as without it, communication seem unproductive and unless.
When there is not trust, the marriage would be built on fears and suspicions and no marriage can survive on that ground.
- Sacrifice: For a marriage to be successful, you cannot remove sacrifice from the equation. In a successful marriage, both parties must be willing and able to sacrifice a lot of things.
Counting yourself second while your partner comes first. When both puts each other first before themselves, then nobody would be African they would be taken advantage of.
- A Forgiving heart: Without a forgiving heart, a marriage won't be successful. You need a forgiving heart in marriage because there are many offenses in marriage.
In marriage offense is inevitable, so you most be ready to forgive before the offense comes.
How can couples improve communication in their marriage?
- To improve communication in marriage, both partners must remove a judgemental and baise mindset.
When one of the partners in the marriage is judgemental, it makes it difficult for the other party to communicate because there will be this fear that there will be condemnation from the partner.
This fear restricts and hinders communication.
Another thing that can improve communication is having a listening ear. Both parties must be able to develop a listening ear. They most listen to understand and not to argue.
Availability: Creating time for each other, spending enough time for each other can make communication better. Couples should have there private times, not for just intimacy but for communication. A time away from work and distractions.
Becoming a safe space for communication for your spouse. Both parties must develop an attitude of keeping communicated matters within themselves.
When there is always a leakage of matters to third parties in marriage, communication is affected. So both partners must become a safe haven for communication for the other partner.
Discuss the importance of trust in a marriage.
It's so risky to marry a person you don't and can not trust.
The closest person to you is your partner and that makes you vulnerable to them.
You can not marry a person you don't trust, of you do, you would automatically live in fear for the rest of that marriage.
Trust makes your partner your safe heaven in all ramifications.
How do couples navigate conflicts in a healthy way?
Conflict is marriage is not avoidable, except both of you are living in pretence and lies.
Before you get to synergies with one another there most be some stepping on toe.
Some times this offenses are not intentional.
To navigate around this is to be ready to forgive, even before the offense comes.
- Having a forgiving heart is key
- Fix issues with communication rather than violence
- Avoid third parties
- Value your marriage and your partner.
Do you consider distance between spouses and cultural differences a problem in marriage? Why?
Yes it's actually is. When you marry, you are not just marrying one person, but the entire family.
The culture of a person from some basic characters in them. If for any reason you have a conflicting culture to their then there would be an issue.
Your partner can overlook but believe me, his or her family wouldn't.
