You'll often hear people say this, but why do we need them? what skills can you acquire to be able to stand out? Not all skills are capable of increasing your chances of survival in the ever changing world. Join me as we explore the very concept of Skill, it's importance and the necessary ones that you should have.

In your opinion, what do you think a skill is?

A skill is simply a tool you acquire either through training or self taught by experience that may be required to promote better income streams or for self pleasure. Regardless of the mode through which you acquire them, we can't deny it's usefulness towards our personal development.

In your country, is a skill or skills needed for daily survival, or is not needed

Surviving in Nigeria IS a skill, believe it or not, the level of hardship you see everyday and the experience to glide through it all to see the next day is something worth a thousand accolades. You might find this funny, but it really isn't.

Professionally speaking, on the other hand, Skills can only get you as far, but you need other requirements to complement this skill, the first one being the most significant -Connection.
My country is designed in such a way that for you to apply your acquired skill, you have to know somebody.

Nigeria is blessed with talents, but only the ones who are actually opprtuned to get through the door into the big hall, metaphorically speaking, are recognized. So, Yes and No, you need skills for your daily survival, and sometimes you need even more.

Tell us some skills in your country that are so resourceful

They are couple of resourceful skills that can make you stand out in Nigeria. These skills give you an edge and could serve as a means of livelihood for many. I will classify them below:

1. Handy jobs

From shoemaking, to giving hair cuts, to Electrical works, handy jobs are quite useful in Nigeria. As a student, I've seen just how many people develop this skill and apply them to earn extra income within the school environs.

2. "Tech" skills

In this ever advancing world, some of the most resourceful jobs require technology, from User Interface/User design skills to Frontend or backend development to digital marketing, coding and many more with creativity and innovation being the main focus for these skills. They can be very profitable.

3. Communication skills

This is widely underrated but very important for survival. The way you interact with people in your neighborhood might just be the difference between life and "unaliving", to put it positively. Minding your business also falls under this category.

What skill do you wish to learn and why do you want such a skill?

Digital marketing has been on my radar for quite some time. I look at successful businesses out here and what makes the difference is simply "marketing", with the world going even more digital, it only makes sense that I acquire some skills in digital marketing.
I recently started a training on digital marketing, it has been quite demanding but I know it will be worth it.

Did you know
writing articles on steemit is
also a "tech" skill?

I invite @jozzie90, @clementino and @blessingogah-1 to also participate in this wonderful contest.
