Should Nigerians Go On Protests

in Steem4Nigeria3 days ago

It is no longer news nor it is just a mere talk that people have been talking over a planned protest that is planned to begin on the 1st of August. People are not happy with the way things are going in the country especially as the prices of goods and services keep rising day by day.

As of the time of writing this post, a liter of petrol (fuel) is sold at ₦1,300 which is equivalent to 4.1 STEEM. Hunger is something that can spoil the mood of a good person which is exactly what millions of Nigerians are passing through today.

Nigerians are well-respected people but the government seems not to understand the cries of the masses which is the core reason why Nigerians are planning on protesting which is a constitutional right, of every citizen of Nigeria. However, the government and many others who are benefiting from the current administration are afraid of the protests because they don't want Nigeria to be in a state of anarchy.

The more reason why millions or Nigeria are not on the side of those who have chosen to protest peacefully for a better economy reformed, and good leadership, and so is because the protests can't only lead to anarchy, but they might lead to destruction and loss of lives and property. To this, I will advise you to stay input in your comfort zone.

Currently, the protests have begun in some of the northern parts of Nigeria which show that Nigerians are ready to make sure the country works well again. Honestly, if I were to say I would say that democracy isn't for Africa, because of how highly the system is corrupt. It is said that democracy is the "government of the people, for the people and by the people" which in Nigeria it is for few people.

In my opinion, I am calling on well-respected Nigerians to embrace dialogue and encourage the government to come up with a lasting solution to the issues Nigerians are facing.

Sort:

The people need to participate in the communities and they need to call out bad governance.

I have always had a mixed feeling about protests as the incendiary politicians who ride the wave of protest into power are usually worse than they ones they displace.

The trick is figuring out how to structure civic dialog into productive action.

Millions of Nigerians are in support of the protests, but my fear is the destruction that may come out of the protests. Without protests, the evil politicians wouldn't change. Thank you for sharing your view.
