Creativewriting Lesson 101: Understanding What Drama, Comedy And Tragedy Stands For

You are welcome to my post today. Indeed it's my pleasure to have you here. In this post, I have discussed about three genres of literature which is Drama, Comedy and Tragedy that some people often get confused on which one is drama, comedy or tragedy after reading a novel or watching a movie.

There is totally difference in these three genre of literature of which Drama as the name implies drama is something that has to do with serious presentation or stories with life situations or settings that paints (i.e portray) characters that are realistic. In the aspect of Comedy is a story that ends with happiness whereas Tragedy is a story that ends with sadness. I hope you are now getting some points here. However, for a better understanding let's take a good look at them one after the other.

Okay friend, let's start by looking at Drama in the concept of movie (films).

What is Drama ?

In the concept of movie, Drama movies are movies that contains serious stories or presentation with life situations that paints (portray) characters that are realistic in conflict with either the actors or other nature. All this are what Drama stands out to portray in a movie. When it comes to drama movie you will get to see how human beings (i.e actors of the movie) at their worst, best been displayed. In the world at large when it comes to movies it is drama movie that are the largest in the movie industry. The reason is because drama movie involves a wide spectrum of movies.

Now, friend you can now see what drama movie stands out to portray. The movie above, is a drama movie that portray a true life story of a man survival. However the part that you are seeing above, is just a short clip of the movie that tell not just the survival of a certain man but it also portray how people were sold into the slave trade in those days of our for Father's. So In a nutshell, drama is a movie that stands out to portray a story that has happened before.

What is Comedy?

Comedy movies are simply movies that are designed to makes the audience laugh and it usually ends with happiness. The main purpose of comedy movie is to elicit laughter from the views (i.e audience). A good comedy doesn't only make the audience to laugh and be amused but they usually go further in making the audience understand problem that are basically individual or social in our society.

As I have earlier said, comedy movie are the type of movie that are very funny and make viewers to laugh and forget about they sorrow. It is a movie that inspire viewers to make jokes and carry-out they everyday activities with happiness. Let's take a look at a short comedy movie below.

Okay friend, after watching the comedy above, you can see that comedy is completely different from drama. Comedy movie can be categorized into different genres like Domestic Comedy, Comedy of errors, Manners, Burlesque, Farce and many others.

What is Tragedy?

Okay friend, just as I have earlier said, tragedy is any story that ends with sadness or depressing ending in the story. In a movie that is tragedy you will see that it's usually about a person downfall or weakness. This implies that tragedy deals person who is lead to downfall base on the weakness of the person. This is why in a movie or story that is full with tragedy you will tend to see the audience developing fear and evoking pity to the person.

Also tragedy can be categorized the same way comedy is categorized, but in the aspect of tragedy it is categorized into genres such as domestic tragedy, revenge tragedy and many others. Let's take a look at the movies below to see how far of what tragedy movie is all about.

Okay friend, from the two examples of the movie above, after watching any of them you will see that the entire story is filled with tragedies that is difficult to control by mankind. You will get to see a alot of brutal murders, calamities that tend to be a normal norms in the movies portraying to you what has previously happened.

The difference between Drama, Comedy and Tragedy

View	Drama takes the view that our life is full of up and down	Comedy takes the view that our life is full with ridiculous and people need to always be humorous.	Tragedy takes the view that our life is full with misfortune and we shouldn't give up since everything about life is either happiness or pain and suffering that is inevitable.
