Hello, lovely steemians. Your very humble friend @josepha is here again as I write and often participate in contests. Today I have decided to participate in the contest that was organized by @lhorgic in Steem4Nigeria Community, which is titled: "Opportunity comes but once". Let's take a look at what I have shared in accordance with the questions.

What is your definition of the word "opportunity"?

The word "opportunity" is what I would say is getting a chance for advancement, progress, upliftment, and profit ahead of time. Opportunity is something that mostly occurs as a surprise in our lives, which makes someone outstanding above his or her peers. In this context, an opportunity is defined as a small chance for advancement, employment, or making a large profit. With this definition of mine, I would like us to consider looking at job opportunities.

For example, in Nigeria, it is very difficult for someone to secure a white-collar job. (i.e. a job that pays well). There are some people that make use of the little opportunity that comes their way and grab some of the white-collar jobs that are difficult to get in the country. Opportunity is something that should not be taken for granted because it comes to us once in a while. In a nutshell, opportunity is defined as a chance about a certain condition in one's life that gives them the ability to grow further.

What is your thought and perspective on this statement? Do you agree with this statement?

Yes, I strongly agree with the statement. I will say that in life we have to take things gradually and steadily in order not to miss the little opportunity that may come our way.

However, my thoughts and perspective about this statement that make me agree is that the life that we are living, especially in Nigeria, is a life that is encountered with more opportunity most of the time.

There are some things that we need to give a trial because giving a trial to something can turn things around for good. In life, we can also encounter challenges through the process of getting an opportunity, for which we need to be extremely careful when giving an opportunity.

Do you think this statement is misleading?

No, I don't think this statement is misleading in any way. Instead, the statement is making us understand that opportunity is not something that comes often, but once in a while, and whenever there is an opportunity that is being given to us, we should grab it and make proper use of it since it is a chance for advancement.

Do you have any personal experience or one from someone you know to back up your take on the statement? Do share it with us.

Yes, I know of two guys who were given an opportunity in their place of work. Both guys were promoted and also taken abroad for further training. At the end of the day, one of them lost the opportunity that was given to him, whereas the other guy is still maintaining his opportunity.

He has used it as a chance to better his life and that of all his family and friends, including those around him. This is the reason why I said earlier that opportunity is a chance for advancement and also comes with challenges.

However, what made the other guy lose his opportunity was that he was too proud of himself. He felt he knew all and to sum it up, he was using the opportunity that was given to him to intimidate others instead of advancing himself.

If I were to rephrase this statement, I would rephrase it to be Opportunity only knocks once. This means that an opportunity is only available for a limited time.

Conclusion:
In life, opportunity is something that we shouldn't joke about. I could remember the day that I told my friends about joining Steemit and they never paid attention, but today they are once again calling me to give them an update on where we are now in different places.

My advice here is that we should grab whatever opportunity that comes our way and make proper use of it. Opportunity shouldn't be taken for granted, no matter how little it is.
