Soil Erosion
Good day my dear steemians today i will love to write on the topic which is soil erosion. know first of all we are all going to learn and know the meaning of soil erosion.
Soil erosion can be defined as the natural hazard, eor an environmental hazard, which means washing away the topsoil. when we say natural hazard it means a dangerous or harmful effect, event. Soil erosion occurs or happen when the topsoil is being removed from the land surface or it also occur by running water or wind.
Types of soil erosion. There are three types of soil erosion which are:
- Sheet erosion: This occurs when a thin layer of the topsoil is removed or carried away by the wind or removed by rainwater over the land surface. This type of erosion is dangerous because it damage the land
Rill erosion: It can be defined as the little streams of runoff water to remove the topsoil on the surface.
Gulley erosion: This occurs when the rills become wider and deeper.
Humans activities that causes soil erosion. There are many activities that human cause which affect soil erosion they include:
Cutting down trees (deforestation), which can leave the soil exposed to erosion.
Planting the same crops in a tight place (overcropping) which may reduce the soil nutrients.
Bush burning which can lead to exposure of soil erosion.
Methods of controlling soil erosion. These are the method that help to prevent or control soil erosion they include:
Caring for the soil by using manure or fertilizer.
Planting trees to protect and hold the soil stronger (afforestation).
Avoiding bush burning.
Building or controlling walls and channels to control water run-off.
Controlling ploughing.
