My Neighborhood Watch #39 - Reporting Events Around us

It's always exciting to make post in a community like Steem4Nigeria. Before I start I would like to invite two fellow Steemians @yakspeace @paholags to participate the contest.

In the meanwhile many interesting events and fastivals took place in and arround ou locality. One of those was annual Salana Sacha Sauda Samagam in the Behala gurdwara on Sunday, March 3, 2024. On this day Guru Nanak had fed thousands of hungry people said Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, the general secretary of the gurdwara. So every year a Langar is organised by the gurdwara to feed thousands of people and it is held for last fifty three years. The gurdwara is just opposite to Kolkata Government Mint building and very near to Majherhat Railway station at the feet of Majerhat road bridge.

Shivaratri an important fastival of Hindu was celebrated throughout India. On this day devotees did prayer day and night with ordinary flowers like Akanda, Dhurtra fruits and leaves of Bel. Entire day ganges water and milk are poured on the one of the form called Shiva Lingam which is a pillar like object with oval top made of black stone.

There are one Pair of Tample of Shiva mote than 300 years old where people believe to come to offer Puja since their childhood for more than sixty years or so. The twins faces towards a pond just on the busiest road of the city. The whole temple complex was decorated with flowers and miniature lights.

Even people collect Ganges water from one place and carry it to famous Shiva temple like Tarakeswar and Bara Kachari. They used to carry it big jars ot earthen pots.

Next day of Shivaratri people has to follow normal routine of day to day life. It is a working day for all. Many used to have vegitarian food after previous day fasting.

In the evening many committees as well as individual distribute vog or prasada like Khichuri , Polao and Payasam which people used to collect in small plates standard in queue. Such food is very delicious and mouth watering.
