"Contest: ELECTORAL MALPRACTICE IN MY COUNTRY

Electoral malpractice has always been common in the Democratic system in the country Nigeria, due to the level of corruption money buys almost everything, even the or the lawyers are paid to counter the right judgement, bribe is paid in full to the leaders of electoral bodies to make sure that their preferred candidate will be successful in the election.

In Nigeria the goal was to fight corruption but it seems corruption is fighting us back.

Electoral malpractice is the known as the illegal manipulation of elections by electoral bodies, parties or candidates which will alter a smooth election and will make the results not favourable to the masses.

This practice is illegal, as the case of candidates, they can employ thugs to take away ballot boxes and then duplicate votes for that candidate, or force the electorates to cast their votes for the candidate they chose not to.

There are many causes of electoral Malpractice and there are;

• Fear
  This is a very important causes of malpractice, if the candidate is Afraid or knows that he won't win the election due to the masses the opposition was able to mobilize, due to fear that he will not win the election, he will get involved in electoral Malpractice so that he will possibly win the election.

• Poverty
  Due to the high rate of poverty In the Nation, the people say, they have no choice than to sell their votes, as that's the only time the will see that opportunity in four years, so they sell their votes to get money.

• Financial inducement
  Because of the prize included in the malpractice these electoral bodies are always induced financially to disrupt the peaceful election and rig the results to favour their preferred candidate who paid them in full.

• Desperation
  Many candidates are so desperate to occupy a particular office and they can do anything possible to get to that office which will lead to electoral malpractice.

• Attractiveness of a political office
  Due to how attractive political offices are, and how huge their pay is, they are ready to pay any amount to make sure they win, with the hope of recovering the money while in office which will also lead to stealing of government money.

• There should be strict compliance to the electoral rules and laws

• The results of the elections should be announced in the polling units which it was carried out, so that during collation the people will know if there was a manipulation in their results .

• The electorates should be informed about the consequences of selling their votes to candidates

• The use of modern technologies like the BVAs should be used for accurate assessment of votes

• Security should be active during the elections to avoid stealing of ballot boxes and other intimidating actions on any electorate.

My answer for this will be yes, but there are some elections which we think was perfect but after some confessions we now know it was rigged.

I guess what motivated this contest was the current situation in the country and i will talk about it.

The 2023 presidential election was a safe election, as it was conducted peacefully across the country, but people where not satisfied with the results as they said it was rigged by the electoral body "INEC".
The masses said they voted their preferred candidate and they made the announcement at polling unit, but when it was collated at the collation center, it wasn't the same and the only answer to that was that it was rigged by the officials.

The electoral body promised the electorates before the election that the election will be free and there will be put into use the modern technology which was BVAs, which will make work easier and accurate, but the election day the officials working at each polling units said there was no network in the server so they won't make use of the BVAs so they had to bring in manual which can be easily rigged in care wasn't taken.
Other candidates were not happy with the later results and hey we're got the order from the court to check the results of the elections using the BVAs, what they didn't remember was that if the server was then turned on the informations that were not uploaded will now upload it self automatically which the accurate results will be seen.

The electoral process in the country is actually poor and not what we were promised, we hope it will be better in the nearest future❤️.
