Good day steemians. It's been a while, however I'm back and ready. I appreciate @xkool24 for organizing this wonderful contest. In today's episode of reporting events around us, I would like to talk about the just celebrated Independence Day of Nigeria.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

On Sunday being the first of October was the day we celebrated our independence. It was the day Nigerians got their independence. It happened since 1960 on the first of October and ever since then the date has served as a reminder for all nigerians of the freedom we gained back from the colonial masters.

This day has always been celebrated throughout the nation for the past years with joy and happiness. On that day, Individuals would put on either white or green or both as it is the colour of the Nigerian flag. While some group of people would match around the streets, singing the national anthem. This day has always been a very festive period with lots of celebration and happiness for all Nigerians.

However, on Monday, which was declared nationally, as public holiday for everyone in celebration of the independence day took a different turn of events in the perimeters of port Harcourt city where I reside in Rivers State. People were rather non-chalance and showing no interest whatsoever concerning this day, what it's all about and what it stands for.

From my observations, Individuals were just carrying on with their normal day to day activities. There was no air of festivity around. No one was celebrating or promoting national identity. What used to be a very great dayfilled with happiness and joy, turned into something else. People were no longer happy but rather sad and hungry.

I decided to carry out a personal research on the reason for this. And based on my finding, I discovered that the reason for the gloomy atmosphere rather than a happy one was because of what the country had turned into over the past few years. Bad leadership in the hands of those who sought power, influence and wealth has destroyed the country in such a way that we can't boast of anything any longer. The freedom we once celebrated is now being questioned, Are we truly free?
The nations economy presently is nothing to boast about with the amount of debts yet unpaid. The nation's currency has dropped so low that a dollar is now equal to 1000 Naira. The price of things in the market has risen so high that if left unchecked the poor masses will die of hunger. The health sector has also, receieved a massive decline in development. With all these happening all at once, the people are rather tired and fed up with the government and their bad leadership. And so permit me to say that the independence day has turned into a day of reminiscing of what used to be a great Nigeria.

Indeed the nation is facing some crisis in various sectors, but none the less, that didn't stop the nation from commemorating the day, it's a significant day in our history.

My dear I pray that God will deliver us from the hands of bad government in this country. Because we are facing too much problems in this country. The worst of it all is that our judiciary that we hope on is no longer safe. Some time I ask a question. Where are we heading to in this country?.
