Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 39: "The Games I never missed"

Greetings, great Steemians! It is with great pleasure that I participate in this contest. Playing games has been and is still a part of me which I find intriguing to always engage in. Thank you @Steem4Nigeria for this wonderful contest.

What a game is

A game is any activity thag one participates in during his or her leisure time. It could be played for fun, enhancing skills or to win an opponent. There are different kinds of game. There are "indoor games" and " outdoor games". Indoor games are those ones that are played within the confinements of a house like whot, scrabble, ludo, chess, etc. while outdoor games are those ones that have to be played in an open field like football, volleyball, basketball, tennis ball, etc.

Playing games require having the skill, basic knowledge of the games and the rules that govern the success of playing those games. When one who doesn't have basic knowledge about scrabble picks up a Scrabble board and its letters on the tiles, one does not know what to do with them and so that game becomes useless to the person. Games can be played alone, with a person or group of persons depending on the rules guiding them.

What is the name of that special game you never missed and why is it special to you?

Scrabble: the game I never miss

Personally, I love indoor games so much. The name of the special game I never miss is "Scrabble". Each time I go home, I must play this game with my kid brother.

Scrabble is a game that is played by two to four persons where the players make words using the tiles on which letters and inscribed. It consists of;

• a board made up of more than 200 boxes
• a bag that contains the tiles
• a hundred tiles that have letters of the alphabet inscribed on them
• 4 plates to hold the tiles in place to contain the number of players.

The tiles are made up more of vowels than consonants with each letter having a number inscribed with it on the tile with some being bare (it is left for a player to decide what letter each bare tile should represent). The tiles are picked from the bag randomly. No player chooses what letter he or she needs from the bag as it is against the rules of the game.

The words that are formed are fine in succession from the starting word. When the players make different words, their scores are calculated and recorded so as to get a winner.

Why Scrabble is special to me

Scrabble is special to me because;

• It helps keep me busy when it seems boredom wants to come for my head.
• It has helped in enhancing my confidence.
• Scrabble when played with my siblings or friends has helped me when it comes to bonding with people.
• It keeps my brain busy trying to crack new words.

How long do you spend playing this game?

Since I have other things I usually do when I go home like doing some house chores and looking after my kid brother, I spend not less than 3 hours playing Scrabble and I could go on until we are both tired and need to rest.

I have come to understand that for me, I have become obsessed with playing Scrabble that even my parents call it my first choice which comes before drawing. Being obsessive in my case means that I can't skip a day without it.
Honestly, I would say that there is no amount of time that is put into scrabble that is a waste and this is because, I get to learn something new each time I engage in it.

Do you think this game has helped develop your mental ability?

I do know for sure that this game "Scrabble" has helped develop my mental ability and I know this because;

• I have been able to learn how to think very fast.
• Scrabble has helped me in developing my vocabulary since I learn new words so I can always stand a chance of winning in the game.
• I have learnt how different people react to wins and losses and how to manage them.
• Scrabble has helped me to build confidence through nurturing the mindset that " I can do anything I set my mind to do as long as I put in the work".
• It has helped in building my critical thinking abilities.
• It has helped me in expanding my knowledge of English words.

If you were to choose between online and offline games, which would you choose and why?

If I were to choose between online and offline games in the case of Scrabble, I would go for offline games. My reasons are;

• With offline games, I can build bonds, make more friends and reach out to people personally which could be beneficial whereas online games confine us to building bonds with the players in the game which might not be beneficial.
• With offline games, one can monitor his opponent's (s) reactions and gestures and this adds to our knowledge through experience.
• Offline games are therapeutic because they are real.
• Offline games can be an avenue to encourage one to up-skill himself but this feature might not be prevalent in online games.
• Online games can be recreated into offline games.
• The online game can become boring after a while but offline game when played with an opponent or opponents comes with mixed reactions which makes the game more interesting.

In conclusion, I would say Scrabble is a very special game to me and that I prefer to play it offline than online.
