Introduction

It's a great pleasure to be sharing with the community today and in this piece, I'm writing an article for the day in Steem4Nigeria Accelerator, a new project recently launched to help users grow in the community. The theme for today is Story time and one would be shared with you utilizing this article.

The Pasture on the Other Side

Everyone wants that greener pasture to enhance their ways of living, career, and so on. Jude's case isn't an exception, a young man of 21 years from a village that has less than 100 houses, geographically, this is a perfect village. Jude was from a typically poor family that couldn't afford to sponsor his education to the university level.

Jude wouldn't let the situation bring him down, he started a small-scale poultry farm in his village where he was able to get himself established as he commercialized the supply of eggs and meats for his community. Within a short space of time, Jude was liberated from poverty, takes care of his family, and has a small farmhouse built for himself.

Sooner than expected, he was well known in his town as one of the notable men at that time. Jude has friends that have attended the same basic school together years ago, most of them have left the village for the city and come home occasionally, maybe during festive seasons, and of course, they come around painting the town red and telling the good sides of the city which has enticed many people to leave the village.

One Christmas, Jude's friends came around as always for the season and this time, they appeared in fancy lifestyles, flashy designers, and a car with which 4 of them cruised. They met with Jude, he was a bit intimidated seeing his friends in fancy clothes and cruising around in a car. The friends narrated how the city is a great place and presented the pasture over there as greener than that of the village.

The picture of what the pasture looks like can be likened to the image above, a greener pasture really. Jude was enticed by the story his friends told him and contemplated following them to the city after the festive season. Before the festive season was over, Jude have concluded on following his friends and he left all he had in the hands of his younger brother.

On arrival in the city, it was a shock for the poor Jude to see the reality about his friends, what could this be? Three of Jude's friends were sharing a single-room self-contained apartment while the fourth guy lives with an uncle of his. The reality about the car they cruised with in the village was rented, what a world! Jude was persuaded to stay with them and told he could hit the jackpot among them because they have known him to be a smart guy. The picture Jude saw before leaving the village changed.

The reality of the picture that was shown to Jude back then in the village was actually a withered pasture. He had followed friends blindly while he left his properties at home, Jude wept for making such a mistake, he was consoled and only lasted a week before he returned to his village because he was not quite comfortable with sharing a room with other 3 guys, remember he's a small house owner in the village.

Jude got back home, narrated his story to his family, and apologized to the members who had advised him not to follow the mere words of his friends during the festive season while he was hell-bent on leaving back then. He thanked his brother for looking after his farm while he was away during that short period.

Conclusion

In conclusion, all that glitters is not gold and it's not good to hasten to action. Learn to be swift to hear but be patient before making a move, Jude thought that the pasture in the city was truly greener only to realize that it's all an illusion, thanks goodness he didn't sell off all he had labored for before leaving the village. I hope you have learned something about Jude's short story. Thanks for reading.
