Archaeological evidence suggests that a civilized settlement developed here about two and a half thousand years before the birth of Jesus Christ. It was declared as the cultural capital of SAARC in 2016.

In 1971, a revolution and armed struggle took place in East Pakistan against the then West Pakistan. The rise of Bengali nationalism and the independence movement and the Bengali genocide in East Pakistan led to the People's War. As a result of the war, independent and sovereign People's Republic of Bangladesh emerged. As a result of the war, independent and sovereign People's Republic of Bangladesh emerged. The West Pakistan-based military junta government launched Operation Searchlight against the people of East Pakistan on the night of March 25, 1971 and launched a systematic genocide. It killed nationalist ordinary Bengali citizens, students, teachers, intellectuals, religious minorities and police and EPR officials. The military junta government denied the results of the 1970 general election and arrested Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the leader of the majority party. The war ended with the surrender of West Pakistan on 16 December 1971. I'm really proud of that. I honor them for their great sacrifices.

Now I will share with you two places where people from different parts of the world come to visit every year.
