Hello there, my dear steemit friends. It's a new day, and I am wishing us all, a happy new month. In my article today, I will be writing on a contest I took part in. Its all about skills, so I will enlighten us about the different skills in my country and how they have been helpful to us.

First, let's look at the meaning of a skill. A skill is the ability to do an activity or job well especially because we are being taught from one's knowledge and experience for a short or long period of time. It is a particular trade or job requiring special training from an expert. Through the learning process, people now have the ability to perform an action with determined results within a short period of time.
In Nigeria, skills are 100% necessary for daily survival. Success depends mostly on what we can do, that's why skills are so important in Nigeria. With the high level of unemployment, if a person has a valuable skill, he/she can meet his/her needs and wants at anytime. Skills helps in generating more income and grows one's business.
In Nigeria, many people go into skills for the following reasons;
-To be competitive in the market. This makes one put more effort in the skill he/she is into, to compete and become successful.
-To become self-reliant, skills enables individuals to become self-reliant, independent and successful.
-To become valuable to the society as a whole. When one is engaged in a skill, he/she is of value to the society.
-To become a businessman. Through skills, a lot of people become successful businessmen, establish an industry, create job opportunity for others as well.
There are four basic skills we need to know and they most essential skills we need to know. They are; listening, speaking, reading and writing. Without these it makes a person find it difficult to cope.

1 Software skills; These include affiliate marketing skills, digital marketing skills, graphics design skill, blogging skills, etc.

2 Engineering skills; These varies in different aspect such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, phone repairs, etc.
3 Business Management skills; One must acquire the knowledge on how to run a business and succeed.

Other skills include sewing, carpentry, barbing, hair dressing, manicure, pedicure, plumbing, tiling, bricklaying, catering, painting, welding, shoemaking, etc.
If I was to learn a skill, I will try software skills. I would learn more of graphic designs and digital marketing as well. This will help to increase me financially and otherwise.
Skills is something one acquires and it becomes part of you. So l will advice my friends out there to create a time and learn a skill.as this will help us all. I hope we have learnt about different skills in my country. Your thoughts and opinions are welcomed.
