Introduction

Mbierebe Obio Timber Market

In Nigeria, people are involved in a lot of business. A lot of people don't depend on salary jobs anymore. People get involved in businesses like selling, sewing, barbing, etc. I am still a student but I have an idea on how businesses are done. The business I was a based on is selling of building materials.

Nigeria consist of 36 states and I am lucky to be an indigene of Akwa Ibom State. The capital city of Akwa Ibom State is Uyo.

Me At Work

I sell building materials at Mbierebe Obio Timber Market located between the boundary of Uyo and Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area. It is a well known timber market. The market is mainly known for wood selling. Building materials was later attached. This is because without woods building sector won't function and without building materials, wood sector will not work.

There are a lot of things sold in the market. The wood section sells all types of woods and the building materials sector sell cements, nails, zinc, plywoods, rods, nets, door keys, iron and rubber nets, ropes, etc. Inside the building materials sector, plumbing materials are sold as well. Some includes; tanks, pipes, water closets, sanks, taps, etc.

Products Sold In Mbierebe Timber Market

I would love to review three important products that is sold in this timber market.

Wood Section	Wood Section

• Woods; Woods is the reason the market is being named a timber market. From the word "timber", we know it is wood. So mbierebe timber market started with wood selling before building materials came into place. Woods are bought frequently. Sales made in the wood section is greater than sales made in the building section. If there is no wood to sell there is no timber market. For instance if a carpenter doesn't buy woods he can't buy nails, zincs, etc. So woods affect the building materials sector a lot.

During Cement Offloading

• Cements; Cement is one of the main product sold in the timber market. Cement are bought frequently. In my shop we buy over 300 bags of cement every week and it is always sold. The demand for cement is very high so therefore cements can't lack in a timber market.

Me Measuring Nail On A Scale

• Nails; Nails stands as a bridge between the wood section and the building materials section. This is because every wood bought must be nailed to another to serve its purpose. Without nails woods are useless. For instance, buying zincs and buying woods without nails is a waste because it is the nail that will bring everything together as a middleman. So whenever a people buy woods they buy nails first before the go for other things.

How Do I Rate This Business

My Director, A Cement Dealer

The business of selling building materials is a very good business if the person involved is focused. My director is known as a cement dealer, zinc, nails, rods dealer as well. Through this business he is doing well same as his fellow friends who are into the business. I rate this business one of the best business a person can engage in if the capital to start with is available.

Even without enough capital, you can still do the business. Some people get things in credit sell and make returns to the company that supplies them goods. This is mostly done in cement business. For instance ordering #500 bags of cement at the rate of #7000 for each is very expensive. This leads to millions of naira. So a lot of cement dealers get the cement sell and make returns and the get their gain in the process as well.
