The Importance Of Having A Good Name

We are given name after birth with loved ones coming together to witness the ceremony. Why do we have to be named? A foolish question you may think, but have ever wondered what is behind this proverb **“A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.” **.

I guess we're all familiar with this phrase/proverb. I came across this proverb during my childhood days as part of advices I receive from my parents. The phrase, captures the real value of a name which they said is worth more than any material possession since it's the essence of who we are!

What can make a name "good"? What's in a name that makes it priceless and create opportunities? Let's talk about the importance of having a good name.

In my own point of view, there are three things I see that makes a name more valuable or important. They are;

• First, is the meaning behind the name.. A name that comes with deep and meaningful history is more valuable and more importance that one chosen with thought.. Sometimes, the meaning of names comes through the circumstance of the birth and conception which with authenticity, honesty and reflects who the bearer is. Do not use the negative circumstance to give names too.

• Second, the uniqueness of the name is of more importance and value also. A name that is unique, uncommon, distinctive is more valuable than that of the ones which are commonly used. A name should not be chosen for its popularity.

• Third, the emotional attachment or connection to the name is also part of what makes it important. Personal significance of the name to it bearer is valuable than that which is not. A force should be able to drive people go into something Positive, when that name is mentioned. Like our Lord Jesus Christ, whenever his name is mentioned we feel the Power and force behind it.

While growing up, I was never for once interested in all having a good name but was on how I'd be famous when I have made a lot of money for my self. But coming to this stage of life where I get know more about life bit by bits, through the Spiritual and natural ways I found it more interesting...

I definitely believe that a person's reputation is very much more valuable than material possessions/wealth. While money, "answers all things", it can't buy good name and life. A person's reputation is solely based on their actions, their character and the way they treat people around them. It takes years to build good reputation which unfortunately can be destroyed in a twinkle of an eye. On the other hand, material wealth can come and go, but a good name lasts forever. Do you agree with me?

In my own opinion, the qualities that contribute to the process of building a good name for oneself are;

• Integrity
• Honesty
• Empathy
• Compassion
• Kindness

These values are known by all of us but the truth is that not all of us have them all which proves the point that no one is perfect.. These qualities are the foundation for building a good name. Being truthful in all dealings, having strong moral principles and living by them, treating others with respect and understanding other people's perspective will help to grow and build a good name

These two dimensions, a good name can have positive impact on them.

For personal relationships, having a good name can make it more easier to find trust, become vulnerable and create great connections. People are more likely to share their lives and open up to people that know that they can trust wholeheartedly. Likewise trust, people Also are more likely to seek support and advice from someone with good name.

For professional opportunities, possessing a good name, can open doors to new opportunities, create opportunities and stand out among the crowd. Won't you like to take chance on someone you know that is trustworthy and reliable? That's how a good name has a positive impact on professional opportunities as well as personal relationships...

A part of me is believing that a good name can be inherited due to the way people talk about it. However, I still believe that, it is something that needs to earned and achieved. Just because my parents or grandparents had a good name doesn't mean I will automatically have one. I have to work, build, uphold and maintain that good name for myself.

However, having a good family name can come with some certain advantage like in professional opportunities. But in all, create one for yourself by yourself...

In conclusion, having a good name is a process that takes time, effort and dedication to achieve. It's not something that can be bought with money or claimed by inheritance but something that must be earned. While it may take time to get one, at the end, a good name is worth the efforts put together positively impacting personal relationship and professional opportunities. Remember that it last for years, creating long lasting legacy for generations to come. I hope you agree with me...
