Steemit Engagement Challenge (SEC)| S12W5 - "My Skills Takes Me Up"
A young man who was considered the bread winner of the family was given employment in a company to work as a social worker. He took this work seriously and has been growing wings on it. One day, it was quite unfortunate the manager replaced these workers with technologies because of his inability to continue paying them. They all lost their jobs including the man. He had nothing else doing so he became frustrated. If he had learnt a skill either online or physical, he would have used that in complimenting the loss while looking for another job. He regretted not learning a skill which doesn't need certifications. Why are skills important in today's world?
Skill to me is something that one does either acquired or occurs naturally to cater mostly for his needs. These skills refer to one's ability to do or perform a given work effectively and efficiently and it doesn't require jamb score or waec certificate to learn. It also doesn't require certificates to start working. You can be an independent skill worker. The skill one possess can be passed on to one's children and it's in one's blood till death.
Nigeria is a blessed country.
Nigerians are common with this phrase, Indeed the phrase above is fully true. Nigeria is a blessed country, with abundance of resources, talents and more. But the possibility and availability of job opportunities all around the country is currently disappointing due to reasons such as bad leadership.... University graduates are victims of unemployment. Therefore the need for a skill or skills is important for the survival in Nigeria. Living anywhere in the world with limited resources is quite challenging and doesn't guarantee a quality life so having a skill makes things easy.
There are good number of skills all around the globe, that are well resourceful. In Nigeria, there are also many of them but I'll list but a few
- Agricultural skills: Nigeria is blessed with a great soil and climate. 80% of Nigerians practices this which serbces as source of food and income.
- Fashion skills '; We Love fashion alot from the traditional to the international stage. From designing of dresses , styling of hair and much more, Nigerians are creative.
- Digital skills: The world is gradually being overwhelmed with the continuous advancements of technology. Living in a digital society without little knowledge on digital skills/life makes life dull to me. The digital skills are many such as web design, web development, graphic design, affiliate marketing, data analysis, programming and coding, content development and lots more.
- Culinary/catering skills; Preparation of food well good enough with expertise is one resourceful skill I know. Having this skill provides you the opportunity to own your business with confidence.
As the world is fast navigating through a world of digital life, I wish to learn the digital skill of programming and coding. This skill alone covers all others digital skills. It involves learning different computer-like languages. My reason for this choice is the solving of problems using analytical skills, career boosting, mental fitness (abstract thinking) and income.
On a final note, skills seems to be as important as food and air lol. We need to take up the action of possessing one or more skills despite our high knowledge in Education and life of wealth.
Remember, no matter where you live in the world, living with little or one source of resources is challenging. Do well to overcome those challenges...
