@emmaprince

Greetings fellow steemians, here is a contest that will help to educate us more about parent-children relationship in terms of decision-making and i am glad to be a part of it.

INTRODUCTION:

Parental enforcement of decisions on children could either build or destroy the relationship between parents and their children considering the outcome of that decision. Children definitely needs all the guidance they can get from their parents when they are incapable of making decisions for themselves and as they grow, parents need to apply caution regarding this.
Let's take a look at few talks in regards to this topic.

DO YOU THINK IT IS OKAY FOR PARENTS TO INFLUENCE THE DECISION OF THEIR CHILDREN?

Parents are the closest to their children and are in the best position to influence their children's way of living from an early age because they are the ultimate example for their children. Children look up to their parents while growing up thereby imitating their lifestyle which will reflect on the child's behaviour, values and beliefs and can help them build a strong and healthy relationship when they grow up.
Parents could unintentionally influence the decision of their children by making positive decisions and living a healthy lifestyle which could make a child's future or by living an unhealthy lifestyle or making wrong decisions which could mar the child's future.
So it is okay for parents to influence the decisions of their children as long as the parents are making good and positive decisions when a child is very young because they will need the required guidance.

DURING THE TIME OF MARRIAGE OR WHEN DECIDING A COURSE TO STUDY, WHAT IS THE PLACE OF THE PARENTS IN GIVING THEIR CHILDREN GUIDANCE?

The parents should counsel their children when it's time for marriage, they should ask them some questions regarding where they'll be marrying into, questions like the family background, family history both negative and positive, the reaction of parents and siblings when they first saw them. Knowing about the traditions of the place they are marrying into is very important especially learning from the nolywood movie titled "CRUEL" teaches a very important lesson regarding tradition. Therefore parents should be concerned about getting these and more necessary information so as to guide their children accordingly.

In terms of choice of course, the parents should be concerned about the relevance of the course in today's society. They should know if their children can also be an employer of labour and also be independent based on the course and not just being an employee after school days, they should consider the risks involved in the course and if it will take them away from their family completely after they are done with school.
All these and many more information will help the parents to know the right guidance to give to their children inorder to help shape their future.

CAN A PARENT ACTUALLY MISGUIDE THEIR CHILDREN IN DECISION-MAKING?

Yes, parents can misguide their children in decision-making though it could be unintentional and this could be due to certain things, example:
● Personal agendas of the parents to force their own aspirations onto their children for the children to achieve those aspirations on their behalf rather than supporting their children's dreams and goals.

● Parents can set up high and unrealistic standards which may bring forth disappointment and poor decision-making.

● Parents could focus so much on achieveing success thrreby making bad decisions which could result in their children's unhappiness.

● Fear could also be a possible factor for the misguidance, rather than focusing om their child's interest which could benefit the child more.

DO YOU HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE OF YOUR PARENTS ENFORCING DECISIONS FOR YOU AGAINST YOUR WILL OR EXPERIENCE OF SOMEONE YOU KNOW?

A friend of mine is currently facing the after effect of the poor decision her parents made for her concerning marriage. She was forced to marry a man because of his wealth, after the marriage, she came to the realization that the man couldn't get her pregnant due to low sperm count, the man though rich but is very stingy towards her to the extent of requesting for a market list for him to scrutinize before giving her the money, making sure that no dime will remain for her after the shopping.
These and many more she has to endure because of the decision her parents made for her.

In conclusion, parents are their children's first best friends, they should learn to warm up to their children's decision-making skill rather than enforcing theirs on them at all times. Listening to their children's choices and decisions and weighing the decisions will help them know the right steps to take in guiding them accordingly.

I am open to learning more about this topic and so i invite @dazzle55 @phatsheddy78 @ishayachris @emishael60 to join me in this contest.

A parent could actually misguide the children and this may happen when a parent enforced the decision for selfish reasons. A balanced parenting may be the solution as opinions would have to be thoroughly screened before taking decisions.

Exactly, thanks for your comment.
