A Short tale that made my Childhood Memorable.

Title: THE REJECTED CHILD

There lived a woman who had three female children, they lived in a house close to a bush that had wild animals in it. The children's names were Willie-Willie, Silver and Kwek-Kwek-Kwek. The one named Kwek-Kwek-Kwek had a body full of rashes and because of that, she was kept away from her two siblings in a tatched house that was always locked and was neglected by her family also. Each time the mother ate with the other two, they always remained the crumbs for Kwek-Kwek-Kwek to eat which made her so unhealthy and skinny coupled with the rashes. The other two were well taken care of, they were living comfortably.

Due to the environment they were living, whenever their mother wanted going out, she always sang a song she taught the two children so that they will recognize her voice whenever she's back and upon hearing that song and their mother's voice, they will open the door for her to avoid animals from eating them. The song goes thus: Willie-Willie di mi, Willie ki ima di mi, saña ye Silver di mi, yak Kwek-Kwek-Kwek kpa bioñ, yak Kwek-Kwek-Kwek kpa bioñ. Meaning that Willie-Willie should come along with Silver and let Kwek-Kwek-Kwek die of hunger.

One day, after the children's mother went out, the animals that lived in the bush and observing and also learning the song their mother was always singing, got up to the children's door and started singing one after the other, the lion with its deep voice failed and so did the other animals because they couldn't imitate their mother's voice until the spraying mantis sang the song with a very sweet voice and the children opened the door and that was how the animals ate them up.

When their mother was back, she stood singing that song but got no response until she noticed the blood and knew that her children were eaten up. She cried so much until she remembered Kwek-Kwek-Kwek that she kept away from the two that were eaten, she had to go and carry that child, cleaned her up, took care of her till all the rashes were gone, fed her well till she looked healthy and really beautiful. That was when she started treasuring that child and Kwek-Kwek-Kwek the rejected child turned to the treasured child.

Is it good to share tales with children?

Yes, it is very good to share tales with children, those various tales taught me some life lessons and it has helped in shaping my life to an extent so children will also learn from these tales and know how to live their lives in a certain way sometimes.

Moral Lessons from tales I still uphold

The above tale has particularly taught me a big lesson. Since I heard of this tale,I have learnt to love my siblings equally and inturn transfer that love to my children starting from my lovely daughter.

The extent moonlight tales have been appealing to me as a child

Those days, looking forward to the new tales we will hear from our elders, made we the children in the compound to always put hands together to finish up whatever that was needed to be done in the house in time, we always prayed for the moon to bring forth it's light so that we could sit around and hear tales and play as well.

It was fun and those memories can't be forgotten. My playmates which are all grown up now are always remembered each time I reminisce on those days.

MODs Comment/Recommendation:
What a meaningful story, now the mother remembered the rejected child because others died. May God always give us the wisdom to handle things as parents.

Gen Z children would find it hard to relate to all this tales by moonlight, when we were growing up as kids..

I actually remember this story..

Yes, children of this day don't understand tales like the way we do back then...tales was our own teletubbies and Mickey mouse.
