Good day everyone, I hope you are all doing well. I am so excited to be a member of Steemit. My write-up today is about traditional marriage system still in practice in Nigeria.

Marriage could be defined as the union between a man and a woman to build a strong bond and a better family. Traditional marriage are no longer regarded by couples in Nigeria. The reasons for large number of cases of divorce and separation is because Nigerians of this present generation has neglected our traditional marriage system for the English system in Nigeria.

Moreover, our traditional marriage system forbid a man to marry a woman without the consent of the woman's parents. This system has made couples know the background of the man's or woman's family there are uniting together. This encourage the two parties to investigate each other's lineage and character before involving in marriage. The system of knowing each other's lineage and character has made so many marriages last so long for years and it is as a result of traditional marriage system.

In addition, traditional marriage system discourages bad behaviours and indecent attitude among their couples. This simply means a man or woman who is of good manner cannot marry a man or woman who has an indecent attitude in order to make a marriage grow stronger in the society. For instance; if the man has a bad reputation of practicing domestic violence, the family of the woman will be cautious and will not unite them as husband and wife. The same instance is also applicable with the woman. With this, spinters and bachelors will no longer be afraid of getting into marriage because the trust has been built.

Furthermore, traditional marriage system does not require a standard celebration in order to get married. This is the reason traditional marriage system is the cheapest because it includes only the family of the couples in order to unite them as husband and wife.

In conclusion, the idea of hiding your attitude either the bad or good is not necessary in the traditional marriage system because your character is under watch by the both families.
