THE COST OF LIVING IN NIGERIA BY @emaidoreyin

Good day everyone, I hope you are all doing well. I am so excited to be a member of steemit. My write-up today is about the cost of living in Nigeria. In our country Nigeria, we have enough resources that can provide food and finances for our citizens. The word food mentioned above should mean low cost of farm produce and finances should mean employment opportunities for different classes of people living in Nigeria.

Moreover, in our present status, the cost of living in Nigeria today has risen beyond the reach of the common man. As a result of these, the lives of so many Nigerians has been affected both economically and socially. This is the reason we hear about large cases of suicide, robbery, drug trafficking, child trafficking, etc because of the high rate of depression among youth. Farm produce like plantain, Young vegetable, rice, beans,Garri etc has gone beyond the capability of most families in Nigeria. When a farmer was asked on the media why farm produce are so expensive to afford when we are producing farm produce everyday, he said that the course of maintaining their farm equipment and farm input like fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, etc are so expensive. The traders also complained of increase in transport fairs and taxation from numerous unauthorised agencies within the country. These are the reasons farm produce get more costly everyday.

In addition, education is also another strategy for the cost of living in Nigeria. Education has now become something that is reserved for the rich because in our present status, different universities all over the 36 States in Nigeria are on strike but the rich people send their children overseas to study in order to avoid the strike. Lecturers were interrogated and they said that the government failed to fulfill their promise on their increase in salaries as written in the budget and also the lack of complete apparatus in the school laboratory for experiment and also for project. This has made a lot of youth lack knowledge in their specified field of study. But if we visit other schools outside the country, the salaries of lecturers or teachers are paid to their greatest satisfaction and also the availability of standard equipment in the school laboratory are made possible in order to make their youth build up their knowledge and also make the lecturers impressive in order to coach the youth more.

Furthermore, having examined the cost of living in Nigeria, government should provide commercial buses in all the 36 States for transporting farm produce, provide funds for the maintenance of farm input, step into the high-rise in naira,etc in order to make life easy and affordable for the commoners in Nigeria. In the aspect of education, government should provide funds to schools and also budget salaries for teachers and lecturers that will make them feel impressed and render more knowledge to the youth. Even the primary and secondary school should be made free in all the states in our country.

CONCLUSION
Government should re-introduce the price measures to bring down the price of goods and services to the reach of the common people. When this recommendation are implemented the country will return to its glory.
